I've decided to put my store on vacation mode for the month of December due to delays in shipping. This morning a customer contacted my about an item past due delivery, was shipped First Class a seven days ago-- tracking shows no activity. A forum search of recent discussions revealed many sellers complaining of severe delays in shipping. This makes sense with new disruptive Post Master rules, more people shopping online from pandemic lockdowns, postal workers calling in sick with covid, and the surge of holiday orders, the postal system is now overwhelmed. I've refunded the buyer, and will resume selling in January.

A lot depends on which sorting centers the package has to go through. Some are more backed up than others. My final eBay package of this season was shipped on Monday and delivered today. What a relief!

Absolutely. I have some I shipped this week that were delivered within three days, no problem. I have others that seem to be at one of the areas that has bottlenecks. And then I have two that went through areas that other people on the boards have been saying are a mess (Michigan and Chicago) and were delivered on time.

I'm having the same shipping delay problems, and also have decided to suspend/end all my listings. I have priority mail packages that still have not been delivered after 14 days. The tracking numbers show initial scans, but packages seem to be indefinitely warehoused in USPS distribution centers. Similar problems are occurring with packages sent via first class mail, but unfortunately, those packages were sent without insurance coverage. The USPS is obviously overwhelmed. I'll be refunding a buyer as well, at a $50 loss. What I find really odd, is that the orders I've place with Amazon are being delivered to me quite timely by USPS. Hope to resume selling again maybe some time in 2021.

The Amazon packages go straight from the Amazon warehouse to the local Post Offices, on presorted pallets. They never go through the USPS sorting centers which is where most of the backup is, based partly on lack of USPS staff to unload the trucks. Unlike the USPS, Amazon can hire whoever they want whenever they want as their needs change.
For an excellent and detailed insight into carrier's experience, including receiving Amazon packages at their PO, see the first reply in this thread:
I'm watching two packages that have been at the sorting center in Pittsburgh for over a week. But since they're heading TO me, I can just wait it out. They'll get caught up eventually.

that's my problem and why I've decided to pause selling/listing - almost all of the packages I send get hung up in the Detroit area for SEVERAL days before they're either scanned or moved to the next location.

I have had a package take 2 month to get to the buyer! I had to refund the buyer and was really lucky that the buyer has paid me back when they received it.
I would not say that Fedex is better. I have only shipped 2-3 times with Fedex and had one package lost. Getting insurance payment was a pain. Plus my local Fedex always has a huge line that I have to wait in to get the package scanned. ( I would never drop packages unscanned, because if they dont scan it and it gets lost , you cant get your insurance payment at all. )

Wife just received a Priority 2-Day from MI to OH that was sent on Nov 28, today is Dec 14. This isn't looking good at all.

HEllo Yes the wall street journal and various other new online had articles about one driver in Cleveland who had to wait 15 hours for his mail truck to be unloaded and also the trucks lining up , blocking the roads!! Seriously. I know Cleveland is a big problem and things are being delayed for days. I had several items take 11 days first class just from Ohio to Tennessee . Also I noticed the midwest is slowed down also. I have upgraded some first class to priority as that is working better (5 -7 days) but since I am not a huge seller, just emailed my buyers what to expect and sent them the tracking number. If your customers go nuts cause the item wont be there in time for Christmas, AS a gift giver, We always for a couple of years now just printed the item on paper and wrapped that with a promise to get it to our person as soon as we get it. Cheesy I know but what else can you do. At least that person has a "gift" to unwrap.

Hi Cleveland is especially bad and so many cities have to go through them now. Also Cuyahoga county raging with Covid now, almost to lockdown point so there is a huge problem See link

The problem is, according to people I have talked to at the post office, they don't have the trucks either. They have actually rented some trucks to provide some relief but even that is proving to be inadequate especially where some of the post offices have a significant number of workers out due to positive COVID tests.

i offer economy, standard and priority mail on most of my items. buyers rarely choose anything other than the free economy option. If i get any grief from anyone, I point out that they could have chosen expedited shipping. Of course, if they DID, that makes it a bit more difficult.
In the meantime, I do feel like closing my ebay, etc., stores, but for ebay, i've just decided to add a big red warning to the bottom of all of my listings, advising buyers that nothing is guaranteed by Xmas for delivery. I did it in bulk so it was quick and painless, but removing that note after the holidays will be a hassle because I presume I'll have to edit them one by one.

My big head scratcher is the media mail package that got from Michigan to Cali in three days 🤣😂

Both FedEx and UPS are only going to get worse in the coming weeks. Both are heavily involved in the distribution of the COVID vaccine which you can bet is going to take priority over everything else.
