Partial refund scam

Buyer requested I give them a partial refund of $15 because a small part of a hot wheel toy car is not original. I believed it was. I told them to return for refund. They stated if they say I misrepresented item, they'll get it for nothing as Ebay will refund them from me and they'll get to keep the car also.

Re: Partial refund scam

Tell them to return for refund. EBay will only step in if you refuse return. If you accept return no matter the reason eBay will not let them keep for free.

Credit card chargebacks are a different thing.

Paypal chargeback will make them pay for return shipping and won't refund until delivered.

Re: Partial refund scam

I checked a couple of your listings and you do accept returns although if the buyer files a NAD claim you will have to pay for an issue the return label. The buyer paying for the label only applies in the case of a remorse return.

Simply tell the buyer  to open a return request, which you will accept along with issuing a return shipping label and once you have the item back and have inspected it you will issue a full refund. Chances are you will not hear from them again.

As robbie31415 mentioned chargebacks are a different matter. If the buyer opens a NAD chargeback there is a high probability they will refund the buyer in full. It is pretty much useless to dispute the chargeback and pay an additional $20 processing fee if you loose the chargeback which you probably will. As to whether the CC company will require the buyer to return the item depends on the CC company most don't require it.

Re: Partial refund scam

I should also add, even after accepting the return you have to do your part correctly.

After an official return is opened the seller has 3 days before eBay can be asked to step in.

If the return reason is covered by eBays MBG (not buyer remorse ie item not described) you need to issue them a return label (can do so on eBay return details by using a eBay return label).

Sometimes eBay will automatically generate for you right away depending on your preferences.

You need to issue this before the 3 days to keep eBay in your good graces.

If you don't issue the label, eBay can be asked to step in. Then eBay will escalate the return to a case and put it on a 5 day hold. You will be notified by eBay that you need to issue a label, if you don't within those 5 days eBay will full refund buyer, let them keep item, and give you a defect on your selling account.

Re: Partial refund scam

This is a buyer I would block.

$15. partial refund VS. you pay return shipping(NAD claim) and never know what you get back plus what kind of feedback will you received.

The buyer knows what to do....how is this buyer's feedback to sellers?
