I sold an item through Best Offer. I was asking $135 for an antique and someone offered me $70, I countered to $85 and they accepted.
The item was delivered 3 days ago and I received a message from the buyer today showing pictures of 2 flaws that I honestly had no idea were there. I noted that it could show signs of wear in the description and the one flaw was noticeable in the photographs, even if neither of us noticed it. The other flaw was legitimate, but I was not about to remove something on the item [said flaw was under ribbon].
Buyer is asking for a partial refund. I offered $25. He said he was hoping for $35. I really don't want to offer that much, but don't want to irritate the buyer either. How should I handle this?
Should I stick to my guns and say $25 or you're welcome to send it back for a full refund? Or do I just eat it? Blah!

Tell him you will refund in full once you receive the item back. Dont offer partials - it is an old game and needs to die.

Thanks, everyone. It was definitely a blood-boiling moment and I was a little back and forth in my responses, which I wish I could take back.
I would have made some $ with the partial, but we ended up doing a full refund. Maybe it will resell, maybe not, but a learning experience it was for sure!
Thanks for chiming in! Live and learn 🙂

The dolly? The buyer is probably another eBay seller trying to buy it as cheaply as possible for resale.

So true.

Live and learn. Sometimes you have to look at it as a business decision. I am not the moral police, that's eBays job. That doll with a broken arm is like a chipped piece of depression glass.

Return for refund nothing else. Buyer got a discount on the item when they bought it. Enough is enough on all of these partial refund requests.

@call_me_caro Put my vote down with the Return for Refund ...

It is hard to expect a buyer to notice something in a picture, even if they use zoom, if you did not note it when the item is physically in front of you. But if you list the damage, and tell them where it is located, then they can check out the pictures and see if they care to buy.
You can ask for return for refund. You will pay shipping for the return, and refund the original purchase price and original shipping.
I think that huge discount that you gave the buyer initially is driving his bargaining now.
Sorry this happened, but if you describe completely and accurately, hopefully things will be all right in the future.
Not taking the buyer's side here, he got an enormous discount when he bought, but in other instances, while a partial refund does not make anything less damaged, I can see how it would make sense to the buyer to pay less for the item, since the item was misrepresented, and they did not get what they were lead to believe they were getting. That is if the buyer feels they can live with the damage. Or they can send the item back as a SNAD as the seller pays original and return shipping, and many sellers prefer that they do that.

If it's worth keeping- it's worth paying for.

Your opinion but definitely not true. It is up to the buyer if they are willing to live with a broken arm doll for 1/2 price, or a non broken arm for full price.

Buyer already got a big discount. Did you read the thread?

OP, block this buyer, also I have learned never to leave feedback until after the buyer has left it for me first.
