Paid; Time to ship email....but payment hasn't gone through

I get an email from ebay telling me my item has been purchased, paid for and it's time to ship.

but the order itself shows that the paypal payment is still processing.

WTH?

Am I going to get dinged now for NOT shipping as per the email????

Before you panic, you need to make sure the "email from ebay" you received is not a spoof.

-- Look at your "Solds."  Is the item shown there as being sold/paid for or perhaps notated as "Payment Pending?"

-- Log in directly to your PayPal account.  Is there any trace of a payment there under your activity?

-- If not, it could be a PayPal problem as they were having issues earlier this week and not displaying all activity promptly for users.  Try this link to the classic PP site once you're logged into to PP  and see if you can see any activity for your item:  https://history.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_history 

-- In either case, if the item is there, what is its status?   Paid or "Payment Pending?"  If it's the latter, it may be your buyer is paying by e-check and it may take 3-6 days for an e-check to come through.

Circle back and let us know what you found which will make it easier for people to advise you.

You need to log into PayPal & check the status of the payment. If it doesn’t say it’s OK to ship then you aren’t required to ship yet.

i guess i wasn't clear.

The item DID sell.  The payment HASN'T gone through yet.

BUT YET I GET AN EMAIL FROM EBAY TELLING ME TO SHIP, that the item has been paid for, which is false.  There's even a link in the email to print the label.

The problem is EBAY.

In paypal, payment shows pending until August 28.

I assume you've checked paypal........  and it isn't there in any form, pending or otherwise.

The email could be fake and the buyer could have marked it paid.........

we were posting at the same time.......probably a fake email.........certainly wait until paypal ok's it.

@rshfs  Since the PP payment doesn’t clear until 8/28, it looks like your buyer paid with an e-check so you don’t have to ship yet. The email is misleading and should say it’s time to ship!

@Anonymous  I thought the issue where eBay was sending out a ship-now message when the payment hadn't cleared Paypal got corrected months ago.  Either it never got fixed or the last update once again included code that should have been dx'ed permanently.

@rshfs  don't ship until the payment clears paypal.  If you get dinged you'll have to call CS and argue the point.

I know this is all generic but it really irritates me when I have 2 day handling to see the ebay notification that says "paid - ship NOW"

Hi @rshfs, I checked your account and it looks like this sale is still marked as an order that is awaiting payment and I don't see an indication that eBay sent you a message to ship. I recommend you forward the message you received to spoof@eBay.com so our teams can review the message for potential risk. Since the transaction is still marked as awaiting payment on eBay, you won't have to worry about a late shipment defect. Keep an eye on your Orders page in Seller Hub and PayPal for confirmation of payment/cleared payment and ship once this occurs.
