Package returned, "Delivery Exception, Animal Interference", what to do?

I'm guessing that I know the answer as the answer is always, sux-to-be-u, type of answer form ebay.

Anyway a buyer has purchased multiple items over the last week from me that were shipped in multiple packages over multiple days. Well yesterday I'm informed by the Post Office one of the first packages shipped is being returned to me due to "animal interference".

Huh? What? Oh I get it there is probably a dog at the address or in the neighborhood being aggressive so the carrier didn't deliver the package. Thats fine with me and certainly the carriers right but since when do they return a package the same day?

The Post Office has always notified home owners that their mail is being held at the Post Office for pick-up due to an aggressive animal so I can't figure out why the package was immediately sent back to me.

And now the best part and the reason for my post here. I gave the buyers a heads up and instead of offering to cover the shipping a second time the buyer files a chargeback with ebay. Keep in mind all I did was give the buyer a heads up, I did NOT ask for any additional money as I figured I was going to have to eat a second shipping charge even though I did nothing wrong.

So what should my reply to ebays chargeback be?

What does the tracking show? Usually Ebay considers an attempted delivery as good as a delivery.

Since you did your job.  That is, to package and ship item.  That is all that you have to do.  As far as the charge back, I have been in your shoes as well and in my case ebay sided with me.  But every case is different, I hope that you win the case.

If the item is return, refund buyer minus shipping fees.  Also add this amazing person to your Block Buyers List.

Just curious. If they could not get to the house to deliver the package how could they have gotten to the house to deliver the notice?

Ebay should have your back.

Respond with the tracking number showing the attempted delivery and the reason for RTS. In the notes, you can also put into words that delivery was attempted but unable to be completed due to an animal impeding delivery.

As for paying the second time for shipping it, that isn't your responsibility.

That doesn't say that it's being RTS. It might be going back to the local p.o. for a delivery attempt in a day or so.

But with the chargeback, I'd still respond as per my suggestion above.

I had a yard sale a few weeks ago. The mail lady refused to give me my mail. Wouldn’t walk up the driveway. Almost had a fit. Then stormed off. They marked all my mail animal interference lol. They usually hold it at the local post office to pick it up. If it’s not picked up in a few days they send it back

I left off the last two entries for privacy reasons where it shows being delivered back to me yesterday.

Usually bigger packages are delivered to the door, so I'm assuming the dog was preventing direct delivery, but carriers can usually pull up or access the mail box safely and fill out one of their "come get your gd package" slips.
