I am begging all of you sellers to PLEASE describe, in detail, the condition of an item on your listing. If you say the condition is "Used" or "Preowned", that is just telling a potential buyer that you are trying to hide something. "Used" or "Preowned" is NOT an item's condition! We all know it's used, but WHAT CONDITION is your used item in? I have bought many items and have had to ask VERY specific questions and pretty much demand they answer the questions, or else they will not disclose that the item smells, has cat hair all over it, is ripped or torn not shown in their pictures, etc, and most times they still do not disclose (they lie) about their items. I've been an eBayer since 2006 and sellers used to be very honest about the items they're selling. Not anymore. I'd say I return at least half of the items that I buy because they are NOT honest and they do not disclose the actual condition of the item they are selling. eBay is now just a bunch of way-overpriced crap that isn't even worthy of a donation, but yet the sellers tell you it's in great condition! Sadly, after about 20 years on eBay as a buyer and seller, I'm hanging it up. Just tired of dishonest sellers.

Hi @bounder_bargains, i agree with you—too many sellers don’t put in the time and effort needed to identify the specific condition details on their used goods.
So i hear where you coming from. You have every right to be frustrated when an item is received and found to be not as described.
My #1 pet peeve are lazy listers who, rather than elaborate on the exact flaws, simply say “for condition, see photos.” Then when the buyer does so, they oftentimes discover dark, grainy, fuzzy images that show nothing useful.
Sadly, there are sellers here who don’t know what they are doing. As buyers, all we can do about it is to vote with our pocketbooks, and/or use the tools eBay provides for resolving unsatisfactory transactions.

Sellers are very different today than in the past.
There are many who have never seen the item when it was new and have no clue what the flaws are. There are many more sellers who are not fluent in English. There are many sellers who have never read any Ebay help or instructions.
There are many sellers who will never admit anything is their fault.
There are many sellers who should be avoided.
That said, there are many buyers who are seeking a bargain and in the process deal with sellers who have bright warning lots saying "Do Not Buy From Me". There are many buyers who waste their time and annoy sellers who find their question about an item to be a sign they are planning a scam.
The old excitement is gone, and many sellers find the time they invest in Ebay after they list to be sheer drudgery.
The best way to deal with sellers who do not know how to sell is to move on to one who does. They might take the hint and stop trying.

Thanks for the laugh...SecondSale you made a purchase with had 1952 negative feedbacks in a month.
And then the pennant rolled up and mailed to you...which are large and I would think expensive to mail not rolled up...and just an ironing board and an iron would have flattened it out...my wife irons Barbie clothes which make me giggle....

I'll never understand the need people have to announce their departure on eBay to a few strangers on the forum. Also strange that you're trying to demand people list in accordance to your expectations... when you're leaving. Just go & move on

As a 20-year seller, you should know that the choices for "condition" are fixed by eBay, and those are the choices eBay gives us.

Yes, you should shop elsewhere. If you are sending back half of the stuff you buy, eBay is definitely not the place for you.

Sounds like your expecting too much of used goods. A return rate that high suggests you would be better off only purchasing new items.

eBay is not what it was, and it can be frustrating when sellers blatantly misrepresent their items condition. One could argue that the Leatherman tool you recently sold as 'New' was also misrepresented.

Sellers in this community are pretty top notch. You are asking for more than what is required by Ebay's standards for description. As a buyer you are responsible to ask questions before purchasing. If you don't then you are agreeing to the terms in the description which the seller put forth. Ebay terms is Used and pre-owned are the same. Used is used. If there is a flaw it should be stated. If not then ask questions. If you are this demanding where you have to return half your items which you don't ask questions before purchasing then yes think twice before purchasing on Ebay stuff which are used.

eBay disagrees, as those ARE item conditions.
Item condition by category | eBay
However, if you are interested in an item and it wasn't described to your satisfaction, then every listing has the ability 'Contact the seller'.

That's what you got from my post? Have an adult read it to you and maybe then you'll "get it"

That's not the only place in a listing where a seller can provide details about the condition of an item. And if that is the only place a seller decides to disclose the "condition", they are lazy! As a seller for many years, I accurately describe my item's condition in the listing itself.

Please, enlighten us all as to how my latest item sold was misrepresented, as it was brand new, sealed in the factory box... hmmmm?

Oh. Wow.
OK. Hey, THANKS FOR THE TELL.
I have added you to my Rogues List of Ignored Buyers.
Happy New Year

The answers I have received on this post clearly tells me all I need to know about the people who have responded. Maybe you all don't remember when people (sellers) actually were HONEST and had INTEGRITY. Of course, I also understand that most comments here, as are the comments on Facebook and other social media outlets, are written by people who wouldn't even begin to say the things that they say if they were face to face with you. I call it keyboard courage. Alas, I suppose we have been taught by our "leaders" to act this way.
