Why can't Ebay put a stop to the scalpers selling GPU's listed as NEW for outrageous prices. At least the new NVIDIA 3000 series and the new AMD series. This could be temporary but the scalpers are deliberately preventing anybody buying new GPU's by bypassing the regular process of procuring a GPU in the open market by writing bots that scoop the cards away from legitimate PC users who would use the cards and not scalp them for profit.

The more things sell for, the more money ebay makes. Besides, this is a free market economy. You want one, you pony up the going rate.

It's very simple - if you don't like the price, don't buy it ...
Why does everyone have to have the hottest thing the second it comes out anyway? One example: I am a big video game & console geek. I like to collect certain things. When the special edition Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch came out I wanted it, but not enough to pay $600+ that everyone was selling them for just over a year ago. Now they are like $300. Sure some of that price increase had to do with the pandemic and shortages all around but the point still remains, I did not DIE because I was unable to get something I wanted right away. Patience is a virtue. I feel very badly that more and more we are becoming a "gotta have it yesterday" society.
It wasn't too terribly long ago that if you wanted something you had to order away for it by check or money order, which took weeks to get to the place you were buying from, then they waited until your check cleared, then sent the item back to you, 4-6 weeks total time. Now people want things in 4-6 seconds. 😞

A favourite Canadian story about buying by mail order.

Spoken like a scalper. AIB's are taking advantage also.

I replace GPU's every other series. My current GPU is 4 years old so the comment about wanting something right now does not apply. The 3000 series Ti and 3090 offer such a huge improvement to me along with DLSS and Ray Tracing. If you look regular people have been unable to obtain a GPU at MSRP for 8 months now so the idea of getting it ASAP really doesn't apply here. If Nvidia sets the MSRP for a product then it should sell for that MSRP. I've never had this much trouble trying to obtain a product.

So what you guys are telling us that these graphics cards that these scalpers are doing is okay??!!! I don't think so!!! I understand putting it a little over price maybe $100 or $200 dollars more but serious doubling it to make more than a thousand dollars is outrageous!! People are still without jobs and can't afford this kind of price for gifts or personal interest. Ebay needs to step up and telling all these scalpers to stop being so wicked and learned to be fair of what the gpu price really cost. I bet NVIDIA hears about their products being overpriced by these scalpers they would be so disappointed and extremely upset!! In fact, somebody needs to report this nonsense behavior to NVIDIA right now to end this overpricing by sellers now!!

Unless I'm mistaken, scalping is something that refers to the selling of sports or event tickets. The laws against it do not cover other types of merchandise. Unless, of course, you're talking about removing one's hair by cutting it and a portion of the scalp to which it is attached. However, I don't see, although I assume it is illegal, how that affects what a seller may ask for his goods.

I suppose that a manufacturer can set a rule forcing their authorized dealers to not sell the item below their MSRP, but I don't think that they can do it with people selling an item that they own.

Very timely and appropriate, after the Stanley Cup recently.
Go HABS!
(They shoulda won the last series.)

Yeah !!! And while they are at it they should take down all of the Corning Ware Cornflower casseroles that are priced $8,000 + (you actually think they will ?) LMAO

If resellers are using bots to scoop these up from the manufacturer's website, not leaving any for anyone else, I believe the manufacturer has a moral duty (not legal duty) to try to put a stop to it. It has nothing to do with ebay, though. Once the resellers own them they can charge whatever they want.

When people stop paying the scalpers asking price, the price will go down.

People can ask whatever they want. It really depends on the item and the demand. Some folks are just plain crazy because they will never get a buyer. In some cases, possibly like the item you are speaking of, if there is a demand, go for it.
