Outrageous New Shipping Charges and Rules

When ebay puts their new shipping charges and rules into effect, I believe that this will be the beginning of the end, both for Sellers, Buyers and ebay.  Whenever ebay has changed their formats and user fees over the years, I have put up with it because it still remained a great selling site.  However, this takes the cake.  Ebay will soon be known as a seller's site for TINY ITEMS because mailing fees are going to be out of sight.   What the hell are they thinking?

According to investopedia: "the average operating profit margin for the S&P 500 was 10.7% for the fourth quarter of 2018. A company that has an operating profit margin higher than 10.7% would have outperformed the overall market."

Mam...its not individuals buying. Ebay is purchasing every single label from usps on our behalf and charging us. That is why there is a giant logo EBAY above our names. Yes ebay gets a better price. That is why there is a slight discount at all available.

You are confusing two different types of the ability to negotiate a rate.

A company that ships from ONE location or maybe a handful of locations but at a high volume can get better rates because they sort their mail or maybe some other things that normally USPS would do.  So it saves USPS time and money so they will negotiate that rate down.  This can happen for companies like Target, Amazon [when from an Amazon warehouse], Walmart etc.  Large companies.

But a company like Ebay, Etsy, etc.  that ship from multiple locations, literally millions of locations, do not have the same power.  They can't negotiate this rate because they can NOT presort or do anything else to warrant it.

Ebay's rates for FCP Domestic are the SAME and every single online provider of postage you will be able to find.  Ebay, Etsy, Amazon, Stamps.com, etc.  ALL the same rate for FCP Domestic.

eBay ABSOLUTELY gets a better rate and does profit off of every single shipping label your purchase.  Please do not ask me for a link, I'm telling you they profit..... ABSOLUTELY and without a doubt.

I did NOT say that Ebay doesn't make money on labels.  So don't twist what I said to fit what you want to discuss.  What I was discussing was completely different.  We were discussing the rates we pay for shipping and what Ebay can or can't negotiate when it comes to that.

Does Ebay make money on labels.  Most likely.  But I don't have a problem paying a company for a service they render to me.  I want people to pay me for a service I provide for them, so I see this all as the same thing.  I do NOT expect Ebay or any other company to provide a service to me and for free.  And on this same theme, Ebay would not be the only company doing this.  There is Etsy, Amazon and more.

But I think the most glaring one would be to us stamps.com as an example.  They have the SAME FCP domestic rates as we have here on Ebay and everywhere else on the internet.  Since the majority of their business is selling postage, I think it is safe to bet that they stay in business by making money off of it.  But again, I take no issue in paying a company for services they render.

Re: Outrageous New Shipping Charges and Rules

I have seen No Notices or Signs at the Post Office at all... But I have decided That I Still Can Use USPS for Most of My packages and UPS or FedEx For Larger Ones. They are Not Raising their Rates. No Reason to Get All Upset. There is always some way around things. I expect USPS to Lose Tons of Package shippers, So they May Just Shoot themselves in the Foot on That one.

USPS generally doesn't post signs regarding changes in policies or prices.

At the PO counter, the only practical effect of the upcoming policy change is that the dimensional weight will be charged for all Priority Mail packages that are over 1 cubic foot, rather than only for those that are going to Zones 5 - 9.  In other threads, some posters have mentioned that their local PO staff aren't even aware of that relatively minor (from their perspective) change. But it's 3 weeks away, so there's still time for them to catch up.

The part that got me in the ebay announcement about the new dimensional rates to all zones was their suggestion to help our costs:

"Use eBay Labels when possible for discounts on postage and renegotiate carrier contracts."

So, are they telling us to renegotiate carrier contracts or am I misreading this?

Yep - like that's even possible for 98% of their sellers

Maybe, but we know that will never happen. ebay isn't known for cutting off a revenue stream.

Tbh. with respect to your feelings about it, the term has now become common usage and means something just a little different.
