I've been selling on ebay for quite awhile and dodged a few negs and some neutrals in that time. when i first started selling, you could leave both, negs and neuts on bad buyers (i've never left less than positive for anyone). that changed soon after to what we have now. I strongly feel ebay's feedback system is out-dated and unfair to honest sellers. we are at the mercy of some vengeful buyers. #1) With big market sellers like walmart, overstock, wayfair etc. using third-party sellers, the only way to rate purchases is through reviews. #2) also, if you are one of eBay's most reputable sellers that consistently delivers outstanding customer service, there should be no option for negative or neutral feedback.
either way, that is my opinion on where ebay's feedback should be presently.

Fixing a mistake wouldn’t necessarily negate the impact said mistake could have on a transaction.
I agree with you that the Feedback system is out-dated. But i think we disagree over why this is so. My point upthread is that feedback no longer affects a seller’s performance metrics. So i disagree with your premise that sellers are at the mercy of vengeful buyers due to an out-dated feedback system.

That can be interpreted as an oxymoron. If you have a buyer in need of 'customer service' there may be an problem that needs to be resolved.

'Fixing' a mistake is also subjective. It was still a mistake and does have impact on a buyer. That mistake could have taken an extra two weeks to resolve. That mistake could have caused the buyer additional issues in the interim. Therefore, that buyer has the right to leave a comment....
