I just sold an item for $74.99 with free shipping, however, when I go to the purchase/print postage page it states the "order total" as $80.24, even though the page plainly states the correct item price of $74.99 and "Total shipping cost paid by buyer - Free". Does anyone know why eBay is increasing the order total by $5.23 on the shipping label page? Thanks.

It is probably State Sales Tax imposed by the buyer's state of residence. If that it the case you will not receive those funds, they will go directly to eBay who in turn remits them to the state in question.

eBay may be collecting tax on your behalf...? That amount is equal to 7%

That is dependent upon the state. The amount varies per state.
