I recently sold $375 worth of coins and ebay took $63 of it. "Optional listing upgrade fees" accounted for $5, but I did NOT choose any upgrades in my listing when I listed. How can I find out what this $5 is from to prevent it happening again?

I can't see any listing upgrades when I look at the listing, but it would have to have been multiple upgrades, as it wasn't an auction so it couldn't have been the $5 reserve fee. Take a look at the list and see if you did any of these (Bold and Subtitle would have been my guesses):

Look through your transaction history in the column called All types click on other fees to see you fees.
If you chose a listing up grade, listed then revised to remove the upgrade from the listing you are still charged for the upgrade.

Was this a Domestic Sale or an International Sale where it is going to another country?
Using an out of USA country credit card there is an extra international fee. Just a thought.

Check the buyer eBay ID in feedbacks to see what country the buyer lives in.
Could be a 'freight forward' from USA to another country.

That shouldn't have been listed that way if that's what it is, that usually shows up as an "International Fee". It also would have been about $6.60, since it's a 1.65% fee (I believe).

To help prevent it....
Most "listing upgrades" are right above the Submit button on the Create a new listing page (at the bottom).
Also, sometimes if you use a sell similar from another seller, some of the hidden toggles might be on.......
regardless, the upfront fee will still be displayed

Those aren't shown as listing upgrades.
@micsta_93 - Did either of these revisions have an upgrade that you removed?

I remember when they made "BOLD" listings the default and you had to actually uncheck the box to not pay the $.50 for it. Could be thats whats happening to you since I believe "BOLD" is $5 now?
Some people here say it was a glitch, but thats not the case - It was purposely set as the default with no formal notice we ever saw - We noticed them on the 2nd day after listing quite a few items, we revised those that snuck by and removed the BOLD LISTING option from them - When we still saw them on our monthly bill and attempted to get reimbursed for them, it was hard - initially they weren't going to refund saying, "tough $#1+" until I threatened to close 7 accounts and take down around 2500 listings - We were refunded on about 30-40 listings with the caveat it was a "one-time" courtesy...

This is NOT what causes the 1.65% fee to be charged on an international sale. I know I've explained this too you before.
When a buyer's primary address is in another country, even if they have the seller ship to a US address, the seller will be charged the 1.65% FVF on top of the regular FVF. Unless the item will be shipped to an international address through the EIS program. If shipped via EIS, Ebay does NOT charge the 1.65% fee to the seller.

What are you trying to do? The OP said "Optional listing upgrade fees" . How did you turn this into a problem with a FF?

It is highly likely you set a Reserve Price on the listing. Maybe you didn't mean to, but the fee kind of says you did. Not something Ebay would have done, but simply a human error. It is important to take your time when creating a listing and make sure you read your screen.
Reserve price | $5.00 or 7.5% of reserve price, whichever is greater (maximum fee $250) |

"extra international fee"-me
"charged the 1.65% FVF on top of the regular FVF"...-you
Same but different words...
And I don't use EIS...if you read everything I write you would remember that.
My key words are...."Just a thought".

It was a thought...."Just a thought".
So we cannot give ideas or thoughts?
