Hello All,
This is my first post on the eBay forums. 😉
A buyer requested to cancel before I shipped an item. I agreed but instead of just using the "Cancel" feature, which would have automatically issued a refund from my PayPal account, I went into Paypal and manually issued the refund.
Question: If I proceed with cancelling the order, will the buyer receive a second/duplicative refund or will the eBay-PayPal system note that I already issued a refund?
I ask because the eBay system still thinks this transaction is active and doesn't know it has been cancelled. I don't want to incur a defective mark on my account nor do I want eBay to send the buyer a refund later down the line because the item never shipped. The item is still listed under "Paid-Ship Now." Nooo!
What should I do?

No, as long as you issued the refund through the original Pay Pal transaction, there is nothing left to refund, so they won't get a second refund when you cancel the order.

If you used the Refund Transaction function on PayPal, PayPal will send an alert to Ebay that the transaction has been refunded. There's no (supposedly) way that a buyer can then request or receive a second refund.
In a day or three, you should see the transaction as refunded on your My Ebay / Transactions view. If not, give Ebay a call and let them know that the transaction has been cancelled, and you used PayPal to refund. Due to the PayPal / Managed Payments thing, there may be a breakdown in communication between the two.

Thanks, everyone. Somehow I missed these responses back in September.
