One Person's Trash is Another Person's Treasure!

As eBay sellers, we sometimes come across items that people throw out on the side of the road and we take them, we clean them and we fixed them up so that way we can resell them on here or somewhere else. It's sad to see when items get tossed out of the side of the road, because some things may be able to be reused again. Just because you may not have a use for something doesn't mean that someone else won't. Just recently, we found a lawnmower on the side of the road, and we cleaned it up and we sold it on the Facebook Marketplace for $20. So with that being said, think twice before throwing something out, because things can be recycle, donated or reuse for someone else. Therefore, If you see something on the side of the road that someone is throwing out like for example a exercise bike, try to see it you can find some use for it. You never know until you try.

When I am walking to the supermarket, if I see wooden drawers tossed, I pick them up, strip them, make a needed repair(s) sand and paint them for pet beds.  I wish I had my own she shed - a pretty pink one w/electricity/heat/ac and a small bathroom.

If you want to see something look at dumpster diving on youtube. There is one couple..stevensteph, that film themselves. They pick in dumpsters behind shopping centers. They're pulling brand new merchandise out of the dumpsters. BestBuy, Staples, Apple etc. I can't believe what these stores throw away.

My husband and I used to work for a department store that would trash perfectly good merchandise after it been marked down a few times.

They used to donate their marked down merchandise to local charities but stopped after people started buying it up at resale shops and returning it to the department store. From then on, they would trash anything that had been marked down so many times. Even TVs. However, they would make sure the items were destroyed so nobody would want to bother with fishing them out of the dumpster.

"How about something left on the street itself - is that fair game?"

Nothing should be in the street here unless it is a licensed vehicle. Trailer attached to a license vehicle is ok too. You will get a ticket if you put other items in the street itself if they can prove it came from your residence.  If you  don't want something you can place it out front on the thin strip of grass or take it to the village dumpsite that is open every Saturday morning.  if too big for the thin strip then you put it as close to the sidewalk as possible without blocking it and put a free sign on it.

if they find an unlicensed vehicle, vehicle parked where it shouldn't be like during winter months or like abandon out of town vehicle, the village gives it a ticket and then if not taken care of and moved soon afterwards it gets towed to the village dumpsite and if not retrieved from there they put it up for bids a few months later.

I have brought quite a few cars  from them in the past but very few since the laws changed here where even if you scrap the cars they need to be registered in your name first.

going back to college town and kids. Yes, that is a very good spot to hit when they move out. You should see them when they come to the campground I am at. We have bands certain nights throughout the summer and when we do the college kids will stop at Walmart and buy those $5.97 camping chairs and just throw them in the junk trailer or in the fire pit when they leave. they don't take them with them. buy them, use them for one night and in the trash they go the next day.
