Offer higher than my asking price?

I just got offered $230 for a product I listed for $190 and the buyer left his phone number and asked me to kindly accept his offer. They are from the Netherlands could this be a scam?

There are always ways for con artists to scam people.  The offering of more than what you are asking for the item is designed to use your greed against you.

By the way, if they included a phone number in the offer, I'm assuming it was not made through eBay's system or the bots should have caught it.  You run the risk of being sanctioned by eBay for engaging in an off eBay transaction.

If the actually wanted to buy your headphones, then they would have clicked the Buy It Now button and paid, or clicked the Make Offer button and offered a little less. That's how ebay works.

That's the scammer test. Do they buy it now at your price or do they want to pay you more because they are such a great guy?

This scam usually works like this:

They don't buy it and they don't make an offer from the listing.

They message an offer (for more to entice you) instead of clicking the Make Offer button.

They want you to go outside of the protocols of ebay to get you to call them or text them.

They want your paypal email address, or they want to "arrange" payment.

They send you a spoofed paypal email.

The fake paypal email states that you have been paid and it's OK to ship, or

that the funds will be released after you ship and enter the tracking tracking number. Either way, they are hoping that you actually don't log into your paypal account to verify payment.

They sometimes elaborate and say it's for a relative somewhere in another land.

Ignore them.

If you skim thru many of these posts here, you'll see tons of ways any buyer can scam a seller on ebay. Pick one.

Multiple ways.  New seller + hot electronic item = big fat target.
