Offer discount on certain items with purchase of specific item

Hey everyone! I've looked around and not been able to find an answer, so hopefully I didn't just miss a thread, but I'm hoping someone can help out with my dilemma.

I'd like to offer a discount on X-type items with the purchase of a Y item. I know I could set up an order discount for a BOGO 25% off, but my understanding is that would apply whether or not someone purchased two X items or two Y items as well.

I was thinking a coded coupon would work, where someone purchasing Y-type item would automatically get the coupon for 25% off X-item, but also no sure how to automate that process.

Any ideas? Am I missing something in the promotions manager?

You could make a one time use coupon.

Give the coupon code to anyone who buys item Y.

The coupon would be good towards the purchase of item X.
