OOS vs. INAD

Do you think sellers ever do this?

Run into a OOS situation.

Rather than take the OOS strike,

deliberately send the wrong item knowing it will end with a INAD.

Then have the buyer send the item back.

Seller will be out of shipping both ways but will avoid a OOS strike.

OOS vs. INAD

There has been a time or two when I thought a "ghost" listing caused a problem. Maybe it does happen. I am sure those that think it happened know what they are talking about. I my case it was a matter of using sell similar and forgetting to change the quantity on the new listing.

I had it happen to me and there's no doubt it was a ghost listing.

The item had sold 2 years prior and all of a sudden, someone did a BIN. (The previously item number didn't come up in a search so I have no idea how it 'relisted.")

Not realizing and not knowing about ghost listings, I thought it was my error and I handled it this way.

Contacted the buyer, told them I didn't have that color but had the same item in a different color. Would they be okay with my issuing a full refund and sending the other color item free of charge?

The buyer was fine with it and it cost me about $50.

Even after realizing and learning about ghost listings, I feel comfortable in how I handled it. But I hate that ebay cost me money for something that wasn't my fault.

@albertabrightalberta   In a like fashion I have never agreed with eBay's INAD Seller Metric because it is subjective in that it depends on the honesty or dishonesty of the customer.  And the INAD was one work around eBay provided (a number of years ago) for Buyers who purchased an item with the No returns accepted setting on their listings AND it would force Sellers to pay the return shipping.  Then Free Returns came along as a way for Sellers to cut their loss on bogus returns (like a false INAD claim) - Sellers could report Buyers abusing the return policy and have the defect removed from their metrics.

The Ghost relisting is real ... so is the fact that back in about 2018 I saw a new page appear on My Selling when I logged in ... I took a screen shot and posted about it ... low and behold some older members told me THAT'S not a new page, THAT is from 2008!!!  Seriously?!?  So how does a 2008 page format surface like 10 years later??? I wish I still had that screen shot and link to that thread ... truth is stranger then fiction ...

OOS vs. INAD

Ever drive by a factory with hundreds of workers and they have a large sign out that says that they have went 5,256 days without a lost time accident?

The only way that is possible is that the company knows how to play the game.

Break a arm at work and they will set you in a special room counting paperclips until you heal.

Agreed.  Just went thru this with a Ghostie and not only did it create Seller issues, it created Buyer angst as well.  Disappointing a Buyer is not fun AND it is time consuming.

E-Bay knows Ghost Listings exist.  Needs to be remedied.
