Good news is I found the error before the customer did! Last Friday a customer bought a Truman Capote Christmas book from me. Today I was rummaging in the basement and found the audio cassette that came with another Christmas book, and thought great, I can take a new photo and revise my listing to mention the tape. It was purely a fluke that I was looking for something else and found the tape in the garage sale box. So I go to make the revision and find rather than being a single item listing, I'd listed a lot of three Christmas books. Oh look, the lot contains the book I'd sold last week, must have accidentally double listed, good thing I'm catching it now. Looked more closely. HOLY COW!! I've sent the e e cummings book from the lot when the customer had actually purchased the Capote book!
I quick sent her a note that she'd be getting the wrong book and that the correct book was on the way. Have never goofed that way before. I hope she takes pity on my feedback, and that she sees my notes (sent a second one with new tracking number) before getting all grumpy for having received the wrong book! Whew, enough excitement for one day!

That sure would put a pit in your stomach.
I've never done that ( yet ), but a couple of times I hadn't
been able to find something I sold.
Fortunately I eventually found the items,
but that is NOT a good feeling until you do find them.

. ..I hope she takes pity on my feedback...
Isn't it sad that we live in a world having to fear someone's "wrath" over a simple error?

And the fact that by printing a 2nd label(if thru ebay), the shipping metrics will be hit.

I'll be the first to admit that over the years I have made a few mistakes. Customers have always been understanding because the best way to handle it is to contact them right away and then fix it.
I have also learned a few basics to avoid the situation.
I only have one item at a time on my packing table so that I don't get labels crossed.
I make sure that I visually see items before relisting.
If I send the wrong item (I have many, many sewing patterns and books, and if you lose concentration for a minute it can happen) - I tell the customer to keep the item sent and the correct one will be in the next mail out).
I am a small seller and work alone. I'm 74 now and do this more or less as a hobby - I like to stay busy. No point in sweating it when you make an error - none of us are perfect!
Good luck - you'll do fine!

Kind of the equivalent of two paddles to the chest, or a shot of adrenaline!![]()

Didn't even think of that; although I looked briefly at my eBay label options I used PayPal Ship Now instead. Still no comment from the buyer.

I had a seller do that to me. I messaged him to tell him I got the wrong item and he never responded. I messaged him a couple more times and no responce. Oh, well. The item he sent me was worth a lot more than the item I bought. It's been over a month now.
