I sold a headlight to a buyer who contacted me and let me know that the headlight I sent him is for a coupe and not a sedan.
Hello. I received this headlight however it is the headlight that goes on a G-37 coupe not the sedan
I sent a message back and let him know that it is listed for a convertible or coupe and not a sedan. He said I was being very deceptive because nowhere in the listing does it say it is for a convertible or coupe. I copied and pasted the listing and circled in red the very first line.
Nowhere in description do I see where it says that it is for a coupe /convertible. So please tell me how I ship it back and get a refund. Very deceptive advertising…
Now I know that I have to accept the return and I should not get into an argument with a buyer, but I just couldn't stop myself from pointing out the obvious. He then opened a not as described return stating that nowhere in the listing does it say it is for a convertible or coupe.
So now I have a ding of a NAD when it is EXACTLY as described. I reported him to ebay and I found out there is a reason in the list that the buyer falsely claimed NAD.
My question would be where does this report go? And what happens with it?

Appeal to eBay - on Facebook (as you know CS are useless)

Send a private message. Include your user ID, email address, phone number, and a brief message.
No cure for stupid or selective blindness.........
I always wonder at the insistance of eBay for sellers to BE CLEAR AND TRANSPARENT IN LISTINGS - when it so obviously does nothing to protect us and eBay couldn't give a rats' ...........

One thing I will say is my NAD service metrics are very low. So, this really means nothing and will have no effect on anything. But it is the point that this is flat out wrong.

Unfortunately many folks just do not read listings like they should an assume something about a product that is just not there. You must be doing a excellent job of describing your stuff if you ave a very low rate of nads.

@vintagecraze50 about a year ago I was hit with the very high not as described rate. I changed a lot of things that I do. Better listings, better communication, making sure what I sent was exactly as pictured and so on. In the past year I have dropped the rate from very high to average just a tick above "my peers". This month two more will drop of and I should be rated as low. So yes, I work hard at it. So, something like this really irks me!

@forward-motion
Nobody knows. However, you can be pretty sure nothing will happen that will be of help to you. There was a time when a buyer filed SNAD for something that was described in the listing would have their claim 'changed' by CS to a remorse request than forced the buyer to pay return shipping if you had selected that option. That protocol no longer exists. Once the buyer claim is filed, your item becomes not as described even if it is exactly as described, and you either foot the bill to MAYBE get the item back, or allow the buyer to keep it in addition to a full refund.

What I see is the Title does NOT state what it fits; and since Nissan decided that the Sedan needed to be different than the Coupe/Vert at the front end (headlights; really??) most people would NOT know that; and most vehicle models a headlight would NOT change because the car has 4 doors vs. 2. Some people don't even know there's a difference between a coupe and sedan; they just figure 'hard top' vs. vert.
Obviously the buyer did not read the description, but we have to figure that happens more times than not- especially since the description is now buried way down past lots of other things.
I would fix the title and any titles that take the same year/make/model of a car but change something that would NOT be obvious.

Unfortunately, e-Bay will not modify it even when a Buyer admits they opened a SNAD on a wrong Seller/wrong item.
E-Bay's mentality is that it all evens out some how.
It is frustrating, but all you can do it return for a full refund and as a TRS, potentially deduct up to 50% should it not be as shipped, etc

Good for you and do not let these discourage you on here. I know it hits the “irk” button when it happens.

So sorry this happened to you. Be sure to appeal the decision. You might be able to prevail as the buyer’s mistake is so obvious. Below is a link on the appeal process. Good luck!

The “compatibility” section of the listing shows sedans starting on page 2.

I disagree, you can't put everything in the title. When buying a part for your car you have to know that it fits, so reading the description is most important. Furthermore, the part number is included. This will tell you if it is an exact match.

Look, the dude didn't read the description, he certainly did not look through the compatibility pages. His argument is that it doesn't say it is for a coupe in the listing. Because it is so hard to weed out every make and model the compatibility is for search purposes only. Therefore, I add this disclosure.
ATTENTION!!!!!
Even if you find your car model in the description list it might not be suitable because of the varieties of modifications. If you are not sure about part fitment please check the part number to the VIN of your car.

I spoke to an agent on facebook. Here is his response. When has eBay credited for return shipping cost?? I don't see this happening. And I agree with you, I am stuck with it.
Thanks for verifying that info. You're a Top Rated seller, and that comes with its own set of protections, and benefits. Some of those benefits may benefit you in this situation specifically. We ask that you handle the return as normal, take care of the buyer, and issue the appropriate refund once you receive your item back. All you need to do to initiate these protections, is to simply report the buyer in either the returns flow, or the resolution center. eBay will then evaluate that report and if it's determined to be a remorse return we'll reverse the impact of that return. We'll issue a credit for the actual return shipping cost, we'll automatically remove negative and neutral feedback, defects, and cases in service metrics. Furthermore, if the buyer has a pattern of abuse, we will remove any negative feedback they've left or defects they caused, including cases in service metrics, in the past 90 days. We do care about your performance, and we care about your metrics. What's good for you, is good for us as well, and we're your partners in business. Yes, you can fight this, and you have protections. I hope this was helpful. Please let me know if you have any more questions. ~David

The result;
I received the item back and took a 50% deduction. The buyer filed a dispute.
Case opened Message I only was refunded 50% of what I paid for this purchase. The description did not match what the seller sent.
eBay's findings
We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of US $113.17 without any impact to you.
This case is now closed. You are not required to reimburse the buyer or eBay, and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.
