I'm curious with how many think eBay damaged themselves & sellers when they put in place the change for view count? By removing what they feel were 'bots'? Instead of thinking we had 15, 20, 30 views on our items when, according to eBay, most of them were not real people, it meant we were (supposedly) only getting 0-3 views a month. My viewpoint is that this hurt sales, for whatever reason. I'm sure many sellers saw the drastic drop in views as a negative against eBay. Showing us it was not as active as we believed. What say you? 🙂

I don't think they had much choice...once they chose to add pay per click ads they had to clean up the bot views. I think it may be a bit depressing for sellers to see how few real views their listings attract, but I doubt it has had any real impact on sales.

I'll take the reality of no bot views over the fiction of bot views - I don't need my ego fed, I just need reliable data. Since bots don't have wallets, they can't buy anything anyway. My sales did not drop after the change.
This issue is like the fees - sellers who didn't acquaint themselves with them thought they were doing great until processing fees were bundled in and they started to be deducted from each sale. Ooops. Not so great.

How is it hurting sales? I don't shop by how many people have looked at something I am interested in. Besides they now show how many people have looked at something or have it saved to their wish list.

I'd say it's for the better. Because if it bums out my competition so they'll quit selling, it's a win.

Views mean very little in my book and are equal to the number of window shoppers at the mall on a Saturday before Christmas. It only takes 1 buyer to make most listings disappear from the eBay public viewing. When I sold have had list with 3 digit view and no buyers, have had new listings sell and get paid for in a New York second. Guess that means they only had 1 real view and maybe some robot view scrubbing listing for eBay violations.
PS: Ya' know what has been said about that curious cat?

So essentially you are saying that you would prefer to see an inflated phony number which includes Bots (who never buy anything) or views from a year ago. Sorry, I only want to see actual people who are looking at my items in the HERE and NOW.

I say what @chapeau-noir said.

I say the truth hurts. Now I am more realistic and I do not expect or even care about views.

It's more accurate. It doesn't affect sales anyway. Also, wasn't this at least a couple of years ago? Works for me.

Ha I guess everyone's different. It was possibly the happiest change for me. Not only did I no longer have another big monthly 'bill' to worry about, to me it actually makes the fees seem lesser.

I agree with all previous replies.
You're not going to like this; I'm really not trying to needle, but if I had an item only get 0-3 views in a whole month, that would signal to me that it's an item that's not desirable enough to be worth viewing. -Or possibly so overpriced it's not worth considering.

Honestly, I'm somewhat surprised that sellers pay attention to these things, as it takes only one view to make a sale.

It did not change a thing. If it is not a sale it is meaningless.

It doesn't matter to me at all. The only statistic I care about is actual sales.
