Non payment

Is anyone else having a problem with winning bidders not paying?  I've had several winning bids not pay and now I have 3 I'm waiting for payment over 4 days.  I've sent reminders and email.  Does eBay do anything to non payers?

Re: Non payment

Before anyone jumps in a tells you to make everything fixed price with immediate payment required and avoid auctions I will say that based on the number of posts regarding UPI's that this appears to be an increasing trend. Personally I do not worry that much about it a lot goes on in the world everyday. Worldwide an average of  178,000 people die every day, thousands wind up in the hospital everyday or are sidetracked by other emergencies.

UPI's are just a way of life on this forum. While immediate payment required on FP items is nice and eliminates the UPI issue there is always a chance that after you ship you could get a SNAD or chargeback from someone other than the intended buyer. AKA a family member taking care of buyers business for one reason or another.

While eBay claims to monitor the buyers for excessive UPI cases I suspect the way they defend the buyers that nothing is ever done. In some cases it may not matter anyway, i.e. the buyer has passed away.

Re: Non payment

Alas!  That has always been a problem here.  Although it might be a bit bigger one as a result of the current attitude of some bidders.  About the only real option is to sell using the fixed price format and not accept offers.

Re: Non payment

I thought eBay used to give buyers 48hrs to make a payment, curious why that was extended to 4 days? I got a buyer waiting out to the 4th day for a $45 transaction.

Have definitely had a lot of non-payers over the last few months, gets tiresome relisting items over and over.

As a summary, I have quoted some information from ebay for you. Please refer the below paragraph.

"Sellers don't need to open unpaid item cases any longer. Instead, orders can be canceled if a buyer hasn't paid within 4 calendar days. If you still have open unpaid item cases, you have 36 days from the date they were opened to close them. If you don't close them within 36 days, we'll close them for you, but you won't be eligible for a final value fee credit and the unpaid item won't be recorded on the buyer's account."

However, I suggest you to go for the next best alternative.  Give your next immediate bidder a chance to pay when the winner is not paying.

Seems that you are suggesting a "second chance" offer when the transaction is still open with the other buyer. That would not be a good idea.

Winning bidders don’t actually have to pay. What usually happens is that after a certain number of days has passed, eBay will give you the option of relisting the item, at which point you can either relist or continue to wait for payment. It’s up to you as the seller. There is no consequence for buyers failing to pay.

Sellers should not "relist" until the current transaction is cleared, by payment, or cancellation..

48 hours was the minimum time frame for a seller to open a UPI. Could not be done in the 1st 48 (dot com time frame)

The 4 days is the point at which eBay now allows the buyer to cancel the transaction for non-payment, or eBay auto cancels if the seller has it set for that.
