Wow having been on Ebay for years without many issues I've now had a run of non payers. No response to emails just radio silence. I've tried the dispute process and it wastes too much time and doesn't achieve anything (do they actually get a strike against their account and how many does it take before they get booted out?). And you can't even leave negative feedback to warn other sellers. Now I'm cancelling the order and relisting. Have I been lucky so far or is anyone else noticing an increase in non payers (mine are not new to Ebay, one of them has feedback in the thousands).

Be careful cancelling the order if you get to many it could lower your seller rating. I have had 9 non paying customers this month alone. I file a case and block the buyer, but I agree with you that there should be some way to warn other sellers of people who don't pay. Ebay states they put a non payment mark against the buyers account, however I do not think they ever remove a buyer for this. Buyers are valued, Sellers not so much.

You can automatically block any buyer with more than one nopay in the last year. USE THE TOOLS PROVIDED! Sellers do not have to violate rules and leave bad feedback. They need to file and close their UIDs and set their bidder blocks.
You will never see a bad buyer coming but the automatic block will catch the repeat nopays.

I don't know if they ever get booted out by ebay, but in your account site preference's "Buyer Requirements", you can block buyers who have 2 or more unpaid strikes, I think it's 2, and you can add them to your block list.

Ebay states they do get a strike for not paying if you file a case and they still don't pay;
"After opening a case, the buyer has 4 days to respond or pay for the item. On the 5th day, you can close the case by going to the Resolution Center and selecting Close case. Under Have you received payment from the buyer?, select No. The unpaid item is then recorded on the buyer's account, the final value fee will be credited back to you, and you can relist the item..."

Not sure I understand. The UID process achieves a lot - it frees up your item in four days, gets your fees refunded, prevents feedback, and gives the buyer a strike so that other sellers can block them. Not only that, but you can set it up to work automatically so that it takes no additional effort on your part.
Do they actually get a strike against their account
Yes.
How many does it take before they get booted out?
Buyers are not "booted out", they accumulate strikes so that you and your fellow sellers can block them. Sellers who cancel orders instead of using the UID process are undermining the rest of us ... because the buyer skates away without a strike so those of us who have set up their blocks are not helped.

Cancelling the order and re listing may cause you to lose your selling privileges.
