No response in technical so trying here. Help?

20 years folks. Im surprised I have a hair left in my head or a spoon that hasnt been used to gouge out my own eyeballs.

Very simple. Just wanted to downgrade my store subscription from premium to basic as im no longer listing even 200 listings instead of the 1000 the premium store gets free. Well all options to downgrade, upgrade, cancel or otherwise were grayed out due to an error on the page saying "Invalid payment method". Well my credit card is in perfect standing and has been since Ive owned it. I called my bank to confirm. The first customer service agent suggested for me to reenter my same card and I got the good ole "Double check your card number" error." The second customer service agent pulled my time tested ebay favorite answer by manually removing my card and then telling me to reenter it now..........to which I got the exact same error. When she immediately seemed confused she decided to try the "well i will personally call you back in 24 hours to make sure we get it fixed, the system just needs time." Its a good thing I knew this well trained lie upfront for holding my breath would have been catastrophic. Of course she never called. Imagine my surprise.....yawn.....next. So 30 hours later I tried a 3rd time. This young lady helped tremendously by saying she called her technical team and they would.........................suspenseful pause.........................call me back in 24 hours. Now 3 days later the 4th rep just told me my card was declined as far back as 3 days ago.................even though Im using to make purchases daily at the store etc and even though my bank says my accounts are all in perfect standing and working order. Still on hold while he "tries something else". Betting countless dollars here that they will offer to call me back tomorrow.

Im on my last leg here folks. I went from just wanting to lower my store subscription to now I have no payment source instead of the one that was working just fine. Im sure ebay will not care that it was their fault when they attempt to collect my fees and sub with no payment source. I do not keep money in paypal already because I have lost trust in ebay.

Anyone have a work around for this or a fix to this several year old "glitch"?

So perfect considerations Fabreed. All stuff im dealing with. So the card showed invalid and wouldnt let me downgrade my store but the card was still working perfectly enough to allow them to charge me on it. This problem went from bad to worse when the CS agent removed the card entirely from my account leaving me with no automatic payment method. No payment method = no more listing items. So now any store is pointless and if I hung around to sell my last 68 listings I would no longer to be able to ever list again anyway. So basically thrown out with the bath water. Customer service doesnt know why, what, how, when ,where. Even the CS rep who took my card off admitted she wasnt allowed to do that afterward and apologized.

So what will happen with no card on file. Ebay will accumulate my $59 a month store subscription fee that I can not remove without asking another rep to do it for me or canceling my account all together. No payment method = no access to make changes to subs. Once the time comes that the system wants to be paid my sub fee and FVF for sales im making and they are unable to charge me im quite certain I will get warnings/ suspensions or whatever up until the point they try to send it off to collections.

Ok Update! So 4th ebay seller rep says after 1.5 hours on the phone that the other ebay seller rep should have never canceled my card and that is likely why ebay is now showing it declined. He also said it was "terrible" how my last 2 ebay reps promised to call me back the next day and failed to do so.................to which he then promised..............to call me back tomorrow.

My religion would've went out the window right then.

But...

Is your store subscription on an annual basis?

If so you only have a small window to cancel / renew / downgrade.

Most of these big corporations don't help much in these matters.

Like you want to leave NO!

NO YOU CAN NOT LEAVE!

Anyhow, I wonder if even month-to-month subscriptions suffer from that small window issue?

Yearly. But the small window does not effect downgrades. Ive heard they might retro charge you the savings you had during the months you already had. With an active payment source you will have no problem reducing your store sub.

UPDATE!!!

To make matters even more obvious with ebay.

THEY FINALLY TRIED TO CALL ME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got an email saying "Hello from ebay, we just tried to make a scheduled call back to assist with your case. Unfortunately the number dialed is no longer in use or operational. Please go into your ebay and make sure the number there is the one you wish to populate for us in the future. If you are still experiencing problems please press the "help" button at the top of most any page and contact customer service.

Folks its the same **bleep** number ive had for 20 years that is in my personal info. Its the same **bleep** number they already called me back on this week. My phone is right beside me working properly.

You literally can not make this stuff up with how bad this organization is.

This is way out in left field, but I have been following your thread for a couple of days now and wonder if you have approached eBay with this spin... your account has been compromised (hacked) because this rep handled your account in a manner that is not allowed or authorized by you as the credit card holder?   They are very quick responding to "hacked" accounts.

I will be canceling my account entirely if this does not get resolved today. Just as I promised earlier in this post. So no reason to risk linking paypal for 3 seconds to do what will be done shortly with no resolution.

I get ya though.

That's cool, but I will leave you with this:

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're absolutely right.

Having read this thread, unfortunately I fully believe this is your fault due to some petty little oversight somewhere. And it is unfortunate ebay can't figure it out but you throw it their way, they throw it back your way and it's game on.

Things like these:

Well **bleep** I thought. No problem Im smarter than this. So I did a one time payment with guess what...................the business card that ebays system doesnt want me to use and ebay system took the payment just fine, because as I have said, the card is perfect. So now my $32 balance which is from yesterdays sales since I had already paid last months fees off this week, is $0. I should have no "active transactions" blocking me from removing my personal card. Screeching halt to anything that makes sense here because I got the exact same error. I thought hrm, I will add paypal as my payment source which would force my credit card to the back up source which would allow me to remove the credit card..........and then I could remove paypal as the source or block ebay through paypal. Screeching halt again. I got the same error trying to remove either payment source.

That's no good, you can't fix a problem that way.

I have never in my life been able to solve a problem by throwing things around.

If you want to solve a problem you have to take a methodical step-by-step approach.

You can't get ahead of yourself, you can't create huge confusion and then blame the system if you wish to solve the problem.  Chances are the solution is quite simple, I see it in ways similar as to when some networked printer doesn't want to work all of a sudden.

It's quite the pita and there's no simple solution but ultimately it is a simple little thing causing all the commotion.

But letting frustration set us on the war path, it's no good.

I have been there, it is hard to impossible to get anything resolved from there.

So close your account or take a good long break and then maybe when things have quieted down, you can try one more time to solve the problem but I'd make sure you give it a good time between now and then, let the mind clear.

That would have me being dishonest. Doesnt mean it wouldnt get more attention as you suggest but I like to always know where I stand and being 100% honest makes that easy. The CS rep who did it was just trying to fix the solution and she felt bad. They just dont give these people much training or tools to fix anything.

Plus if I tried the hacked account route I would just be talking to the same people who havent been able to fix the problem all week anyway.

We differ on the honesty aspect, as I am an honest person, too.  What the rep did compromised your account, even if it was done in the spirit of trying to help and a lack of knowledge.  So, IMHO calling it out is not dishonest.

Re: No response in technical so trying here. Help? UPDATE 5:46 pm est bottom of page 3

VEJ this would have been reasonable from you had this been the way I started. First my "oversight". Not only am I willing to admit any fault I might have to resolve a situation I actually went looking for where I screwed up. I checked my name and address with my credit card on file and made sure every single character was capitalized or not, spaced or not etc. I checked my history of payments through ebay and my bank and had the CS rep do it as well.............perfect...........for as far back as histories are viewable. Nothing had been changed with my credit card since I updated the new expiration and code number 3 years ago. CS confirmed no changes. After all this searching I am confident I had absolutely nothing to do with the card being shown as an invalid payment source. CS also confirmed this was an ebay glitch.

For the second part. I agree the hail merry at the end might not be a good strategy..........for a beginning. It sure as heck isnt a bad strategy when there is nothing left to lose. When you have proven time after time that ebay can not and will not fix it what is left to do? Keep calling? I added a new card number to make sure they werent blocking all my cards. I got information out of that attempt. I paid a one time payment of my last 2 days of fees (had just paid my monthly bill this week already) and I used the credit card that ebay said was invalid to prove the card is working perfectly. Another ebay CS rep noted the transaction and confirmed the card that I used was the same as the one that was invalid confirming there is nothing wrong with the card. This tactic proved quite valuable and Im quite glad I did it. So its now in ebay notes with my case proving my card was fine. This was a VERY GOOD way to try to make something happen. Waiting on someone to do it for you is not exactly the best idea.

As for warpath etc. 20 years should provide me with enough leeway to let my thoughts out. Nothing im saying is wrong or a lie. Maybe other users need to read it and see what they are up against if they have the same issue. As for closing my account and coming back? Not happening. Ya close your account you lose all your feedback and start over from square one. Just simply. NO.

The last thing im doing from here is monday during american business hours I will pray I get an american call center..........0 for 11 at this point so unlikely, then I will have them remove my store subscription. As each of my remaining 68 listings end I will remove them so they do not relist. When they are all gone so am I until ebay figures out the problem...............to which Im already totally ghosted at this point anyway.......save the call monday if anything comes of it. My account will be active as in still viewable with feedback but I will no longer sell or buy here ever again.

I just spent $342 on amazon for something I could have bought here for $328. Im not the only one who has made this choice, probably just the more vocal. This is why ebay is losing ground. Simple as that. Thanks for your post and response.

With an invalid card---------  where will payments go if any of the remaining 68 listings sell?

Re: No response in technical so trying here. Help? UPDATE 5:46 pm est bottom of page 3

So customers still pay me through paypal.

Ebay will grow its balance of my sub and FVF fees until the system attempts to get paid. There will not be a payment method to get paid from so my "guess" is they will not like that and either contact me , suspend me, or both.

Of course I had just paid my monthly bill last week......with the credit card they said was invalid. And I just did a one time payment of my last 3 days worth of sales fees with the same invalid, wrong number credit card through paypal. So currently there is no balance to worry about until I sell something before my remaining listings end..........or until ebay tries to get another month subscription (which im canceling monday in hopes of doing that with an american CS rep.

I will update here and hopefully my painful experience will help others in the future.

I pay my monthly bills on the exact same day every month in full. Have never paid a penny of interest to my credit card. I have an 836 beacon score. I also have receipts to donuts I have purchased 20 years ago filed away. I am 100% certain that it is not a card issue, payment issue, credit issue, or something I have caused. This is 100% an ebay issue and all the promised calls are now well past the promised delivery. Including Trintons getting back to me on the boards.

As for the dont want to link paypal to ebay to take automatic payments. Here is your explanation. Over the course of 20 years ebay has incorrectly billed my credit card at least a dozen times. Recently Etsy stole millions of dollars from their sellers and called it a glitch when they over charged for fees and took money right out of peoples bank accounts. Ebay is obviously having problems and if Ebay pulls an Etsy those of you with paypal and bank accounts that ebay has access to may very well be calling the same customer service people who cant help me in order to get your money back. I on the other hand will be having no problems. The other reason is because ebay offers no seller protection what so ever but my credit card company does.

Very very simple. Hope that helps.

Hi @cashvaluerecovery2011, I apologize if there was a misunderstanding; while I'm happy to help and have seen the update you provided, I did not mean to indicate that I would be responding within any certain amount of time. The Community Boards are a peer-to-peer support forum and are not intended for Customer Service purposes. While I can absolutely get the issue you are running into investigated and work on a fix, I may not be able to review or reply to your updates in the way the same timeframe Customer Service may.

That all in mind, I've reported your situation to our tech teams. I can see that you've stated you are unwilling to change your funding source to your bank or PayPal and while this is ultimately your decision to make, I do encourage you to consider setting up a PayPal account as your automatic payment method with whatever card you are attempting to use as the Funding Source for that account as a way of getting the result you are looking for.

I understand that you are using the same card on other sites without a problem, but that being fact would not resolve the problem on our site. If there is no other solution, you may have to reconsider your stance on adding your bank or PayPal. Ideally a different option will become available, but I wanted to prepare you for other possibilities.

Re: No response in technical so trying here. Help? UPDATE 5:46 pm est bottom of page 3

Thanks for getting back to me. My credit card is linked to my paypal account already. I used it to make a one time payment for my last 3 days of FVF with a CS on the phone to prove the card works on ebay. But I can not link that card to be used by ebay through paypal and have paypal as my automatic payment source because ebay takes money from the account balance first. They dont charge the credit card unless the account is out of funds. So this does not "get the result im looking for." Its the result im guessing ebay is looking for.

There is not a chance in heck I would ever give ebay access to withdraw funds at their leisure due to the likelyhood of "glitches" and the proven guarantee of "no customer service". Imagine getting over charged (which has happened more than a few times over my 20 years). And then having to deal with the phillpines customer service I have dealt with to get it fixed. Given recent results I would imagine I would go in looking for $20 reimbursed and come out owing $110 with a couple of communicable diseases.

Thanks for the help. It is what it is.
