No more padded flat rate envelopes?

I've had an order for these for over 3 weeks now. I placed a second and 3rd order hoping to get something soon. I have only one left lol.

What is going on? I'm assuming they have a production shortage. What are others doing?

I was able to cram a couple of orders into a cardboard flat rate envelope.

But usually that doesn't work. May have to ship more Fed Ex since their price has gone down.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

There is a chick on You Tube that tells people that it is "A O.K. to use Priority supplies such as the padded envelopes to ship their items as long as it is inside a priority box".  She also demonstrates placing items in a small flat rate box and then shoving into a Flat Rate envelope for $6.50 shipping rather than paying the fee for the Small Flat rate box ($7.50).  She swears up and down that her post master has told her this is fine.   So, I asked my post master and he told me that is not how the supplies should be used. Told him about the chick on You Tube encouraging people to do this.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

I had to order the large PM boxes a second time, and in fact had removed a few items where that box was the best size until the shipment arrived. I'm convinced a substitute mail person just didn't want to deliver the first order, because the second order was placed on a Sunday and arrived on a Thursday (I know by another sub because he/she bothered to walk them up to my front door which wasn't necessary).

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

The current administration is trying to destroy the USPS from within.

The way to counter that is to give them your business. If mail in this country is privatized, we lose.

You understand why they're doing it, right? If they managed to take away our public lands and, for example, built condos in Yosemite, would you buy one? Or should I say.. "Yo Semite".

I suggest resisting the urge to participate when certain groups try to destroy us from within. This isn't really a "FedEx gave me a better price" moment.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

They are still available.

I order them by the case of 100.

But i do use them AS INTENDED, for Piority Mail, not as packing material when i ship out Faberge Eggs.

I'm down to about 10 left in my box. I have a new box of 100 on order, shipped August 3rd.

You'd think the PO would have the algorithms to figure out who orders hundreds of the envelopes but has no corresponding labels printed.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

My last order for the priority padded mailers was on 5/20 and they arrived 6/24.

As frenchfashions said, ebayshipping supplies has run out of the plastic padded mailers and delayed shipping on them several times over the last few months.

There must be a shortage of plastic. I've been trying to get the 3000 sq ft roll of plastic wrap from Costco for the last 4 months and they've been out. I use it to wrap items being sold as a lot to keep them together, to make sure a manufacturer's box doesn't pop open, etc. It's usually about $15-$16 a box. I wondered if Amazon had their own brand and looked there and saw someone was selling the costco wrap for $50/box. The name of the seller had something to do with toddler clothes, so they must have hoarded that while other people were hoarding T.P. and hand sanitizer.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

I was just going to post what you said.  I mean they all have bar codes on them so they could easily be tracked.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

I ordered some recently and got them within a week. I don't know if there is a shortage or if it depends on what area you are in and where they are shipping from? Little confused, but I got my padded flat rate envelopes and all other USPS items I ordered fairly quickly.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

The padded mailers have always been subject to shortages - it's the one USPS product that is.  I recall when they were first introduced, for a long time one could only order 15 at a time.  We sellers were doing all sorts of acrobatics to try to order even 50 or whatever we would need.

I simply think that with exploding online shopping due to the pandemic and the frequently short supply of this particular mail product, it's just slow getting them right now.  I ordered 150 padded mailers and they took about 3 weeks to arrive - usually I get my products within a few days, but padded mailers have always taken longer, and this time I fully expected them to take even longer and ordered early.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

I shipped out a $100 piece double boxed with a large video box inside a medium flat rate box to protect it.  But I use my own bubble wrap.   Sounds like this is a no-no too?

I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

But there have been times where i receive something and it is packed with 20 brand new priority mail padded envelopes.  THAT's a no no.

Re: No more padded flat rate envelopes?

There's also nothing wrong with a video box inside a PFRE, but a SFR box inside a PFR mailer? No.

They probably would frown on a Regional A inside a MFR as well.
