I haven't had any sales for a week either, but I don't have anything listed for sale here.  Same outcome, but no stress to list and jump through all the hoops.

I actually wanted to start selling (have a lot to sell for a move to Hawaii), but seeing all the bad experiences here (and I had some this year as a Buyer), I don't want to introduce unwanted stress into my life.

Sellers have been coming to this board every week for the past five years complaining of a sudden downturn in sales. You are certainly not alone, but on the other hand it is certainly not happening to everyone either.

You can't say these problems have not accelerated over the last year.

I've been active on here for around a year now, and I can see a hugely significant difference from just 3 months ago, and 6 months ago, compared to now.

When I first posted the issues I discovered, there was a small group of people who related and thanked me. But there was a huge amount of opposition saying everything was fine and never experiencing the issues.

Nowadays, most people can relate, and those who are NOT having issues are very few and far between.

Many of the names I seen who were sceptical of the information I shared, are now experiencing the issues themselves and/or moving to other venues.

I'm extremely worried these days by what's happening. I had hopes earlier on that if we could work together and provide enough evidence to eBay that we may be able to make a change. But at this point it seems more and more like it might already be too late, and it truly looks as if what we're seeing may be something eBay will not able to recover from.

This can't be blamed on Amazon or anything else. EBay dug this hole themselves. If you want to know how? Just refer to their recent message to stockholders where they claim their promoted listings system has the "highest satisfaction rate" and that 2019 has had an "amazing start" in the eyes of sellers.

Yeah, because there's loads of sellers here thrilled with having to pay eBay extra %'s on their FVF in order to gain visibility with their promoted listings. Especially if they're paying the 5%+ "trending rate".  (News flash... you can set 1% trending rate and search items to see that there's 0 or 1 other seller promoting that item. How is the trending rate 5% for an item when there's NOBODY ELSE selling or promoting it? Or if you set 1% and you have just as much visibility as the only other seller promoting that item). It's a scam and they don't even attempt to hide it.

Where exactly did they run this survey with sellers....?

Re: No Sales for a week?????????????? Is anybody else having this problem??

11 sales in March, 3 in April, 2 in May --- going down. Some say it is because Internet is taxed now, some that eBay's GTC (good till canceled) was forced on all sellers but hard to say what else could it be, may be competition?

I promote through Ebay - no results. Sent offers to watchers and got these 2 sales in May because of that

They have. But so have the number of listings and the amount of competition over thepoast couple years.

eBay's gross merchandise volume grew from $84 billion in 2016 to $95 billion at the end of 2018.

That's growth of 13%

But the number of listings on eBay has grown from 800 million in 2016 to 1.2 billion at the end of 2018.

That's growth of 50%.

Re: No Sales for a week?????????????? Is anybody else having this problem??

Okay, but how much of that is stuff that's either straight from China or being dropshipped? Despite eBay claims that they were going to crack down on dropshipping, I see far more listings that are clearly dropshipped then ever before.

Barring that, there's definitely other issues at play, with a lot of it undoubtedly being the search algorithms. My category is used auto parts, which is fortunately pretty free of dropshipping. An increase in the number of listings in the market as a whole doesn't account for the 50% sales and 47% traffic drop I've seen since the spring update.

Sales have been very good, as usual. No complaints at all.

This type of math is way too simple for eBay's Bain bred overstuffed suits to understand.

Re: No Sales for a week?????????????? Is anybody else having this problem??

You have a lot of nice vinyl records for sale, but your prices are ridiculous. And yes, sales are slow across the entire platform right now. The economy is stalled, buyers are being scared away by rising shipping costs & taxes, and ebay refuses to spend any money on advertising so traffic is falling off a cliff.

But in the end, your prices are outrageous, and you really should consider dropping them to a lower and more feasible price range. Almost every listing I viewed was like $24.99 and up, you're scaring all your potential buyers away.

If I charged $25 to $50 on every game and movie I sell, I wouldn't be in business. You have a ton of listings too, drop prices and have a sale, and I can make a sure bet you would get a ton of sales.

I’m not the brightest crayon in the box but even I can tell that “Something is rotten in the State of Denmark!”

I’ve been selling on Ebay off and on since 2008 (started with household items after relocation’s). I’m not a high volume seller (477 All Positive Feedback) but the changes that Ebay has made on their seller platform have been devastating (down 70.2%). Although I thoroughly love what I do, this is a lot of work just to lose money. Like many other sellers, most of our merchandise has to be procured and shipped in from distant sources, which is both time consuming and very costly and more often than not, there isn’t a whole lot of wiggle room to negotiate. Sadly, now I am seeing “outside competitor” ads being promoted on Ebay's site (displayed below our listings) enticing buyers to purchase from “non Ebay sources” who are selling the same (or similar) brands/items that I have listed. Sales have been so bad that I’ve reluctantly tried using Ebay's new “Promotion” and “Send Offer” campaign features as of late, but to no avail.  “I may be stupid, but I learn slow!” LOL

It’s becoming glaringly apparent that either Ebay's new selling methodology is faulty or that they simply don't depend on their sellers' revenue anymore for survival!

With that being said, can anyone recommend alternative selling platforms that might be promising?

Thank You and May your Sales Increase! Sherry

Man did you ever hit this on the head. That is great isn't it. I am getting more sales on other venues for the same things and less expenses. Example: Sold a headlight before GTC and sent it to Alabama. Cost me $42. thru FedEx. Sold one on Mercari and cost me $17 thru FedEx.

One of my buyers said they won't buy anything on eBay again. Something about they can only see china items when they go to search for something.

You are so far off base I don't even know where to begin. It has never been continually stated like it is now how bad sales are because of GTC. No graph has shown a decline in sales like the present ones. No warnings have been posted (articles. Educate yourself.) as to why a company buys their own stocks back like their is now.

That is just the beginning.

The competition is China. When you try to search for something guess what comes up first.

eBay's gross merchandise volume grew from $84 billion in 2016 to $95 billion at the end of 2018.

That's growth of 13%

Ya you notice it is not separated from U.S. sellers and China Sellers.

But the number of listings on eBay has grown from 800 million in 2016 to 1.2 billion at the end of 2018.

That's growth of 50%.

Mostly by China.

And according to eBay's own reports GMV has dropped immensely in 30 days:

GMV.png

Parts & Accessories (one of Motors largest categories) down 27% in 30 days! Again, this is from eBay's own report.

Besides, if the issue were "too many listings" on eBay, doesn't that mean there should be *more* quality control than ever on those listings?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that removing quality control at a time that has more listings than ever is only going to lead to an extremely poor buyer experience, combined with slowdown for *everyone* regardless of how good of a job they do taking care of customers.
