So I make purses out of upholstery fabric. I thought looking on eBay for some might be a good idea.
First there's the stuff from China which is all cheap cotton blend and kind of flimsy at best. Not very good for making purses. Then I found lots of yards of upholstery fabric, but all located in USA. They wanted $26 for a yard, plus $43 to ship to Canada (many were using the Global Shipping program). I didn't find any dealers in Canada with anything that interested me (not that shipping is great in Canada).
No deals here... so I went to my old supplier of remnants and stuff and ordered a bunch of swatches at $1 each so I can examine it and see if it's useful, and if I buy it, $7 to $10 a yard (it would be $30 shipping to Canada if I buy a bolt with many yards on it, that's how much I paid to order 10 yards of 10 different types of fabric). The downside is, if you were covering a couch and needed many yards, you might be out of luck. Some of their scraps are only a half dozen yards to buy. I often get what's left if it's a few yards even though I only paid for one.
Cheers, C.

You may wish to use a specific search via Google or other search engine. It may be more useful to you than the eBay search. I, as well, look for items in a narrow category. eBay will say there are none, while the same search on google will produce many results, some of them even being on ebay. You can even exclude words that will "stick" from page to page. Imagine that.

Not sure how close you are to the border but why not take a road trip to the US and hit a bunch of thrift stores? Alot of places have purses for a dollar or two, so fairly cheap unless you want high end items.....
Cut the fabric, fill up suitcases?
I don't know what cost would be involved, just an idea you might not have thought of.
