Next move

Buyer of a golf club claims to have received a roll of cellophane in the box. He claims UPS told him “the box was damaged inside a facility and they could not reconcile the pieces”. His assertion now is it will be a waste to “send an empty box” back to me.

What’s the next move?

Re: Next move

I have never seen a roll of cellophane in 3 foot long rolls. Meaning that the average size / box to ship a golf club is about 36". I think cellophane is comes in about 12" rolls from my past packing / shipping experience.

Width is 12" but pretty easy to simply roll out a 12" wide piece 36" long. There are multiple dimensions to everything. 😀

Re: Next move

I have seen that  complaint by other  buyers. The first I saw was a lady from India that lost buyer protection, and that was way  more than several years ago. She was very upset because if she didn't receive the items or they weren't  as described then it should be covered no matter how many claims you made. True. But there is a limit. I think the lady said she made 8  claims and was cut off fome filing more claims.

Here is the warning and reason posted by another buyer that lost buyer protection.

"Activity on your account didn't  follow our  Abusive buyer policy. Buyers may not misuse our feedback, returns, or buyer protection programs.

What activity didn't follow the policy- Filing excessive returns claiming the item is not as described when the seller described it accurately."

Re: Next move

I think you're missing the point and calculations of my post.

Please show us all a 3-foot-long roll of cellophane / shrink wrap on a 3-foot cardboard roll. That would probably weight over a 100 pounds easy.  I could not find one. I did find 18" & 20", but it comes in a thinner / lightweight roll for one person to use.

I hear you.

1) Cost to us is relatively minor. We usually just write these things off. We don’t even bother with UPS because it takes too much effort to get a single payment.

2)We’re exclusively golf clubs. Doubtful he purchases again.
3)We’re not afraid of the feedback, but would just as soon keep our 100%.
4)Guys who buy golf clubs lie and scam just like everyone else.

5)No feedback until we gave him “1”

6)We could replace it.

We’re reasonably certain this isn’t legit, and were inclined to fight it on that basis. We usually fight this things. Perhaps we should let this one go too.

Don't golfers use more than 1 club?

Re: Next move

Perhaps he could send the roll of tape, then his time won't be wasted sending an empty box.

Re: Next move

It’s a gut feeling, based on how he’s conducted himself. He’s had an eBay account for years and this is his only purchase. He’s at times been evasive, at other times angry. He’d be getting blocked no matter what.

Re: Next move

The photo he sent is highly pixilated. Whatever it is he’s claiming he recieved is only about 20” long. When I said that doesn’t look a cellophane roll he said it’s “a roll of something like cellophane”.

He doesn’t have any feedback. The purchase from us is his only feedback.

Re: Next move

Update/resolution

-We held our ground and the buyer continued to refuse to return that which he claimed to have received.
-eBay closed the return after 30 days with no refund.

-eBay sent us a notice later they had reopened and reviewed the case and decided to give him the refund.

-We contacted eBay and they reversed the reversal and gave us the funds back.

I think eBay likely comped him the refund, which doesn’t matter to us since we got our funds back. There are ways this could have gone wrong but the strategy of demanding he return whatever he claimed to have received ultimately worked out for us this time.
