New vs used

I have a plush doll that still has the tag on it but has been sitting on my shelves for a long time like about 10 years. I never used it, I just stored it on my shelves but has some dust due to storage. Would this be considered as new or used?

Used unless it was bagged and stored after you brought it home.

Re: New vs used

I don't like to use the term new as it's associated with fresh off a clean store shelf.   I make sure the first image shows the tag prominently and include close ups of the paper tag, front and back.

Re: New vs used

If it looks like you just bought it from the store: New.

If it doesn't: Used.

Re: New vs used

Listing an item as a new item that has sat on a shelf collecting dust for 10 years would be a lie and very deceiving.

So, list it as used.

Re: New vs used

Not sure why the presence of the tag seems so important to everyone here.  I buy dolls at the thrift stores.  Almost all of mine still have the tag, if there was a tag to begin with, and let me assure you that none of them could be listed as new, like new or anything close to that description.

Re: New vs used

What I recommended they do is use New (Other) if available, and then explain in the condition notes and in the description

Exactly...I've sold dolls that are vintage and still in the box. They have never been used and the box is still sealed.  Only displayed.  That always worked for me and I sold them all... no problem. This was my experience. Good luck should you choose to sell it.  ☺

Re: New vs used

I've personally sold ancient computer games (designed for Win95, Win98, even a few Win3.1) and they were listed as new, and sold with zero complaints and several nice comments.  The games were still in the original shrinkwrap and while a few had dust on the top from being stored, the all met eBay's definition of New.

eBay had specific considerations for when you can use New, Like New, New(Other), Used, Refurbished, As-Is/For Parts.  You can find the definitions here:
