New to Ebay. I owe them an additional $150??

So I get an email today saying my invoice for eBay is $150. What is this? This is 10% of all the money I received from selling items on eBay. I'm never using eBay again.

I talked to customer service yesterday about how eBay functions. 10% of each item sold is ridiculously high. I'm appalled people sell high ticket items on eBay.

High?  Hardly.  If I want to take something to the local consignment shop, they charge a 30% fee, PLUS the only exposure I get is to the people in this area.  10% for allowing you to market your items to a worldwide audience is a steal.

Local consignment shop actually does something... they handle the actual item... deal with the customer for you... collect the payment for you, etc.  They're leasing retail square footage for a fairly limited number of items, have to pay rent, pay employees, etc.   eBay pretty much does nothing... other than allow you to create a listing to go in with their other billion+ listings.  I'd maybe compare it to a 5-star restaurant vs. Taco Bell, but the comparison would be a lot more valid if Taco Bell just let you look at a picture of a burrito on your computer.

And calling this "a steal" might be an unfortunate if somewhat appropriate choice of words, KWIM?

Methinks someone needed a little attention, and they got it.

In all seriousness, thank you for your service.  If it were up to me, military personnel would get a big discount.

The "worldwide audience" part would be almost hilarious if it wasn't so sad. Hardee-har.....

BTW, when I started here, fees were 5.25% on the first $50, 3% on anything over $50.   I thought that was more in line with what the fees should be.  AND... for that money, my sell through was a LOT higher, my prices realized were a LOT higher too.

About 10% of my sales are international.  I've shipped to Canada, Australia, the UK, Scotland, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands.

I might do 15% international these days, but most of the "worldwide audience" doesn't apparently see my items anymore... eBay seems to prefer showing items in their Global Shipping Program to non-U.S. buyers.   Back when the fees were lower, Cassini did not exist, the MGB did not exist, the GSP did not exist, and I could take real money as payment, I was selling close to half of my listings international.   I've shipped to Iceland, New Caledonia, Lebanon, and places as exotic and dangerous as California and New Jersey!  Usually when business raise prices significantly, they have something better (not worse) to offer for the money.
