So I get an email today saying my invoice for eBay is $150. What is this? This is 10% of all the money I received from selling items on eBay. I'm never using eBay again.

I don't understand why everyone thinks it's perfectly okay to sell gun paraphernalia, scopes and such, tactical combat knives designed to be used on people (not for carving turkey, not hunting and fishing), or anything else that can kill a person
on ebay.
I know this won't make me popular, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
There have been thousands murdered with baseball bats axes pillows hatchets etc. Those things are perfectly ok to sell.

I'm curious about what you meant by stating "an additional $150..."
You should have fifty free listings (insertion fees) so what have you already paid them? The fees to list items have nothing to do with the fees charged when they sell.

I talked to customer service yesterday about how eBay functions. 10% of each item sold is ridiculously high. I'm appalled people sell high ticket items on eBay.

I updated my pic yesterday when I found out how to and both of my listings sold. What's wrong with updating?
I haven't said anything about you updating your pic, I think that was someone else .
Nothing wrong with updating your pic, you can do it as often as you like.

10% would be nice.
And I just noticed today that the top rated seller discount doesn't include the fees on shipping.
Here's the percentage I pay every month.
Fees as a percentage of your sales
This month's eBay sales and fees
Total monthly sales
$665.66
Total monthly fees
15.39%
Based on your monthly fees and credits totaling $102.45, your fees as percentage of your sales is 15.39%Um that includes shipping. You pay 10% fees like everybody else.
I didn't make 15.39% up. That's what I paid in fees for my sales, not counting the paypal fees.

It is very difficult to make an informed business decision about selling here without knowing the costs.
I would venture that the vast majority of sellers here investigated the fee structure before selling on eBay, not afterward.
Are you also aware that PayPal takes 2.9% (plus 30 cents per transaction) of every payment made through their service?

I venture you're right and we did. I'll point out though that the site wasn't quite as "slick" and vast and complicated, and pushing the positives and burying the negatives as it is today. Their announcements and advertising are frequently misleading, or ignore what we might call the "harsh realities". "Pay only if your item sells" isn't exactly plain language to anyone who isn't predisposed to be suspicious and cautious.
I agree with the OP, the fee is too high given what little they do for it. But that's how capitalism works, and I suspect eBay has determined that's what the market will bear, so that's what it costs.
That said, this place is a simple math problem. If you can sell it for at least 15% more here than using free local options... or if it will sell here but won't sell locally... then this is a good deal. But if you can get the same money elsewhere with less fees, I'd recommend doing that instead.
More people are killed in auto accidents than anything else , should we ban selling them altogether ?
Just bacause these things can be used that way does not mean they will be used that way .
Lately those too have been used for mass murder. Unfortunately we cannot ban them and that is a very weak excuse anyway.
Well, actually we can ban automobiles... government can decide they're too deadly...an instrument of terrorism... or a menace to the global environment... and simply ban them all. Same with baseball bats axes pillows hatchets etc. There is no Constitutional guarantee to have any of those things. But there is a Constitutional guarantee to arms.
That doesn't mean eBay has to let you sell them on their platform though.

High? Hardly. If I want to take something to the local consignment shop, they charge a 30% fee, PLUS the only exposure I get is to the people in this area. 10% for allowing you to market your items to a worldwide audience is a steal.

The "worldwide audience" part would be almost hilarious if it wasn't so sad. Hardee-har.....

About 10% of my sales are international. I've shipped to Canada, Australia, the UK, Scotland, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands.

"Excludes: Africa, Asia, Central America and Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, North America, Oceania, Southeast Asia, South America"
You can hardly expect a "worldwide audience" if you are not prepared to ship "worldwide".
