Is there a way to change new and improved (?) messaging back to classic messaging? I have a feeling that whoever came up with this improvement doesn't actually sell on Ebay.

Sorry, no; "classic" is gone forever.

Coding written by contract programmers who do not actually use the site or have a clear idea of how to write efficiently has been a long, chronic problem here. Failure to do any peer review or QA testing ranks a close second.

Having selling experience is not a requirement for designing a message system.

The new system can be a bit shocking the first time especially if you don't have a smartphone (eBay's new messaging is based on what people use on their phones.

Like almost every eBay change there is lots of resistance regardless if the system is actually much better or not.

The resistance and complaints about the Seller Hub were a perfect example, one of the best things eBay every did but it didn't stop the exact same complaints that the new message system is getting.

I often wonder about those who make these sorts of complaints... how is it possible to get so set in one's ways that one is unable to adapt to a modified version of something one has used previously?

(NOTE: I used to work for a particular cabinet agency in DC.   Back in the late 70s, we had rotary phones, and to connect to someone else inside the building we needed only to dial the last four digits of their number.  One day HR sent around a notice informing us that we would soon have to start dialing the last five digits.  The uproar continued for MONTHS.)

There is a lot to complain about on eBay, but in my opinion the iPhone eBay app is nothing short of awesome.

I don't use the message system very often and quite honestly did not even realize that a change had been made.
