Hello all,
I just had some one do a buy it now on an item I'm selling for $199 plus shipping and they already paid me though PayPal. It is an international buyer from the Netherlands but I can ship there no problem. Whats raising my suspicions is that the item I'm selling a kind of obscure piece of digital recording equipment and the buyer joined eBay today and bought it today. What risks am I looking at? Thanks!!

Ship using Ebay's new standard international shipping which is an option when creating label through ebay. They assume the delivery risk and offer $100 of free insurance. If buyer leaves neg FB about delivery speed, ebay will remove it. However, buyer can that claim it was DOA and you will have to refund them full purchase price + shipping and you will have to pay return shipping to get it back. I would purchase additional insurance to cover the difference (including shipping) in case of damage / loss. Finally, if you are unsure, send them a message welcoming them to ebay and confirm their true interest in buying your merchandise. Ask them to confirm their address and a good phone number where they can be reached. If you get a response, you can google map their address and give their number a call to be certain. If you here nothing, cancel the order due to suspicious activity. Good luck!

You risk opening a can of worms if you don't ship the item to your buyer.

I say ship. Obscure product means he was searching for it, found it on eBay and created an account just to buy it. I don't see any red flags here. I sell to zero feedback buyers who created their accounts the same day all the time. Many other countries have their own popular selling platforms which is why you would be surprised how many people outside the US do not have eBay accounts.

There is always a risk - be it a domestic or an international sale. Many times you won't see it coming and then again, sometimes it is obvious from the start.
Are you sure they paid - did you check your PayPal account or did you receive an e-mail? An e-mail is not proof you have been paid.

Better ship it signature required and tracked. If not kiss it good bye.

This ^^^ I've even talked to a few 0 feedback buyers who said they signed up just to purchase the item which they had been looking for. Obscure digital recording equipment tells me sound engineer, musician, etc. The Netherlands has a big music scene. Hey - Dutch techno!

The program does include $100 insurance for loss or damage but according to the info I've read, the program does not assume the delivery risk.
