For those who offer Local PickUp….ebay is rolling out a Proof of Delivery feature. When the buyer pays online, he gets a QR Code and a six digit number. When he picks up, he shows the code to the seller, who can scan it with his phone and that will then indicate delivered in the shipping area. Don’t want to get close enough to scan? The buyer is also given a six digit code number which he can provide to the seller, and that too will be accepted as proof of delivery.
This is being rolled out, so not everyone may have it today. Also, at this time, this won’t work if Local PickUp was not chosen by the buyer at time of purchase. (Example: Listing does not offer Local Pick Up. Buyer buys item, but then notices he lives in same town as seller, so asks for Local Pick Up. This won’t be available, although it sounds like they might try to add that ability down the line)
I don’t think there’s been a formal announcement yet, but this was discussed in today’s ebay Podcast. https://community.ebay.com/t5/The-eBay-for-Business-Podcast/Episode-88-Checking-In-With-Sellers-Sell...

Let me call tech support for you on my fancy flip phone....
(I think I still have one of these in one of those "boxes o' stuff that have just been shifted around unopened for decades", ha-ha!)

People without phones can use an alternate 6 digit number that’s also issued

With all the problems I see here in the community postings re problems with phone app's, does not make me go out and get one. LOL Like those phones, I still have my first cell phone but was newer then the ones shown, but still predates flip phones.
I am sure there will be a work-around if I sell local.

If you can find them they will sell... found a box up in the master bedroom closet... sold the suckers too.

According to the Pew Research Center, 96% of Americans have a cell phone and 81% of Americans have a smart phone.
Those numbers are more than a year old, so I suspect they are higher still. And I suspect that number is even higher still among the population who have the online access required to sell on eBay.
With numbers like that, I doubt eBay is ever going to develop a non-technology option for confirming local pickup.
For some reason the eBay app will not work on my phone. I'm fairly certain the problem is on their end.
I think you're getting ahead of eBay tech with that equipment. Give them a few years to catch up.

Very nice. That's one of those fancy new Hi-Tech phones, that folds in half and only weighs one and half pounds. I'm jealous.😉

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques I don't use the phone app so I will make the secret code a requirement prior to setting up the pick up time and location ... that way I will have it.

I pushed it to paypal, everyone said it's a great idea. FINALLY.
MY WIFE IS MAD AT ME FOR TELLING THEM OVER AND OVER.
They finally figured it out.
I think I had this idea initially about 10 years ago. They kept telling me.... HAVE THE BUYER LEAVE FEEDBACK WHEN THEY PICK-UP THE ITEM. I lost SO many sales.
It's bitter sweet, I got nothing, but in the end... I will now be able to sell large furniture locally!!!!!! I AM HAPPY but now I have to deal with my wife.
My hounding finally paid off.
You would think ebay would send me a check for this one. Yeah right!

Oh this sounds like a cool idea. I must admit to having held back from pickup requests because I was afraid that they would file a request stating that they never received anything and I would have no proof. This seems like a decent way to work around that issue.

I have taken chances and lost about $5000 the past over the years. I kept telling them... YOU SAY I HAVE TO ACCEPT PAYPAL, but you have NO way for me to prove delivery, which is mandatory. It never made sense. This will make it so easy!!!!
I haven't even read what everyons is saying, I'll go back and look, but I saw the first 2 sentences of the OP and I said... HOLY TOLEDO! They are using it!!! I registered CASHTRAKR.com months ago because I was pushing a way to build an app to do it. The company who was gonna develop the app wanted $200,000. So, I didn't do it. So a few months back, I was hounding and hounding. I have a house full of antiques that I can't sell because I couldn't prove tracking. I am so happy you have no idea.
this makes it a whole new ballgame!

Just want to prove that this is my idea. I don't know how it will "officially" roll out but you can see my initial proposal.

Did you get a patent?
Without one.....you got nothin'
I think you said you had offered this idea to eBay on the past, if they signed an NDA then you might have cause but if it was an unsolicited submission then again....you got nothin'
