Question for you guys, a buyer just paid for one of my items ($40) but they just made their account 2 days ago. There’s no feedback for me to go off of and I’m concerned they may be trying to scam me. Has anyone else dealt with a new account with 0 feedback? How would you go about this? If I cancel, pretty sure I will get dinged correct?

My first purchase on ebay was over 20 years ago, when I had zero feedback.
I paid about $150 by mailing a paper check and still use the item to this day.
Every buyer starts some time. Just relax and enjoy the sale.

Yes the good old wait 7-10 days for check to clear please days 😁
I mad my first purchase as 0 new buyer in Aug 00, still here buying and selling.
My first purchase was an Atari 2600 with some games , want to say it was around $75.00 - $100.00

Cool.
Mine was in 2000, also. I remember being concerned that the check would make it safely to the seller.

Now that everyone has hopefully set your mind at ease, you can thank the buyer for their purchase by saying so in the feedback you can leave for them. A brand new buyer will feel soooo good when they see their first feedback. Make sure to pack the calculator well enough to impress them how well your handle your sales.
In the rare event that you ever do have a problem with a buyer, come straight back to this forum for help again. In the meantime, good luck with your sales!

Probably a guest buyer - lots of them these days and you are probably giving away a sale if you cancel - google the address and see what the destination looks like. If its a vacant lot, its a problem with the buyer's address.

I would say if its a vacant lot then its a problem with Google Streetview. After all - why would even a scammer provide a fake address? That ends up as nothing but an undeliverable package.

That is not necessarily true. Google maps can take up to 3 years to update.
When we had the house we live in built. It took about all of that time before we started showing up on anyone's GPS much less Google maps.

Yes, you would get a defect, because the true cancellation option you can select is out of stock.
I sell to countless buyers with zero feedback, many of them buy with guest accounts. If the buyer paid, you ship.
Honestly, I have more problems with buyers that have hundreds of feedback.

There are 0 feedback buyers that I've had no problem with as a seller
There are 1000 feedback buyers that I've had problems with as a seller
There are 0 feedback sellers that I've had no problems with as a buyer
There are 100,000 feedback sellers that I've had problems with as a buyer
Two things to think about: A) Everyone starts out somewhere and B) you can't ALWAYS judge a book by it's cover (or feedback rating). Since sellers can't leave neg for buyers anymore, this is even more true.

Those were the days. I did that on here, and Yahoo (they used to have classified ads). People would mail check, allow time for it to clear, then I'd box up and ship out. I sold a pair of skis in 1998 half way across the country, I couldn't believe it was worth it to the guy and was suspicious, it all worked out. No feedback, no rules, no nonsense and no crime. Simpler is always better.

You just have to take your chances. Usually it's fine. I just sold to one the other day, item shows delivered, knock on wood it will be fine.
I have more issues with accounts with lots of feedback, they seem to think they can get away with more because they're established. Then they don't pay or do other stinky things.

I would say probably about 75% of my sales last year were from 0-50 feedback scores. No problems from any of them. They could be checking out as guests too just fyi. They pay, you ship.
I don't go crazy with my feedback for the newbies tho. I just say thanks for a fast payment and we look forward to working with you again.
Good luck to you and happy sales.

Payments via Snail Mail was extremely time consuming for everyone involved. Simply depositing the payment into your bank was never good enough to then ship the item out. You had to wait to make sure the payment cleared, as they all did not. We also had to be on guard for counterfeit Money Orders as those became very popular too.
If everything cleared, then we shipped. By the time the buyer got what they paid for it was a good 3 weeks from time of purchase.
Now we get payments within seconds. We don't have to take it to the bank and keep are fingers crossed that the payment would clear. And we can ship the item out quickly which enables the buyer to get their item in days, not weeks.
Yes we have scammers now, but we certainly had them back in the good old days too. Since the good old days the site has grown and evolved. Buyer don't want to wait all that time to get what they purchased either and most sellers would not want to run to the bank on a daily basis.
There are pros and cons to both ways of doing things.
"No feedback, no rules, no nonsense and no crime." None of that is correct. We had FB, rules and scammers. Possibly you did not have any to deal with, but they all existed.

everyone has to start the same way including you.Don't assume it is a scam
