New Warning on the Invoice flow

Saw this new red banner warning for the very first time this evening after an auction ended with a bid.  In my case I adjusted the shipping cost and the error banner disappeared before I sent the invoice ... not sure if it would remain if I just sent the invoice OR if sending the invoice would be blocked without changing the shipping amount ... might check that on the next one.

Screenshot (302).png

devon@ebay , kyle@ebay   Could you please have whoever wrote the warning correct their spelling ... green arrow.  Additionally, can you confirm the following please (on accounts that have Auto-Pay turned OFF😞

-Does eBay send an invoice the moment an Auction ends so that the 4 day time begins for the cancellation cycle if Buyers don't pay?

-The warning states eBay will send payment reminders ... okay, how many and how often and can we get a copy of the message that is sent please?

-If Sellers use the "Adjustment" window and put a value there are their Fees still based on the original shipping amount shown above and then the discount comes off the bottom line for the Buyer OR does the discount come off first and then Fees calculated for the Seller?  I've never used that, I just change the shipping amount.

Not exactly: that is a seller option at the bottom of the listing form, default Off. The seller can add that requirement if desired.

Perhaps you're thinking of the new pre-payment info requirement when making offers? That will trigger immediate payment automatically if the buyer's offer is accepted, and its default setting (found at the bottom of your Buyer Requirements page) is On. The seller can lift that requirement if desired.

But that too, @spahrsautographs is decided by the seller and NOT by eBay.

Well, yes, and no😊

Ultimately the seller has the option, but they have to know that eBay has, without notice to sellers, "auto check marked" the box for that "preauthorize automatic payment" requirement 😁

Yeah I will never understand that.  So, you implement a new feature that is a pretty big deal, could have a major impact on sellers' business (for better or worse), give them the option of whether or not to use it, BUT AUTOMATICALLY OPT EVERYONE IN, AND NOT SEND AN EMAIL NOTIFYING THEM THAT THEY WERE OPTED IN, OR EVEN THAT THE NEW FEATURE EXISTS!  - How many thousands of sellers just have no clue about it?

@gurlcat   I'm guessing more like tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands or more ...

@mr_lincoln

"Two bacon, a toast, egg over easy, side by each."

The Quebecois influence.

I agree that the new demand for buyers to register to be allowed to bid or buy is a good way to end a sale before it begins.

It was a solution without a problem.

I have a sale hanging fire since Nov 9, and I do find it irritating that I can't send the customer a reminder, but this is also my first UPI this year as far as I can recall on any of my selling accounts.

Well, I suppose you can always draft your own reminder message; it doesn't have to be an actual invoice (and there are distinct down-sides to invoicing anyway, most notably locking in the Shipping cost before the buyer has indicated where he actually wants to send his purchase), but rest assured that eBay is already bombarding the buyer with payment reminders. If anything, you would just be piling on.

How long before sellers change the postage by a penny and send them anyway.

eBay sent out an email in the form of the seller update which has info about the setting.

I'm sure there are many thousands that have no clue because they don't read the seller updates.

I gotta have more cowbell.

😂You read my mind but I didn't want to post it and offer the idea up on a silver platter. Not that it would make a difference. Others will figure it out as quickly as we did, especially if they're actively looking to get around system settings.

Yup, eBay is trying to protect us from ourselves. Providing a "work around" would not be helpful 🤣

They have the rock. Don't show them where their foot is.

The shipping price better be reduced by a penny rather than raised! Or the boards will be flooded with more complaints.

New Warning on the Invoice flow

Hey devon@ebay kyle@ebay . Since Mr L already tagged you in to this discussion I will add what I think is some excellent feedback eBay should be addressing in relation to this new invoice change.

On the help page:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/selling-getting-paid/issue-invoice-combining-payments?id=4139

Remove this line of text from the bullet points at the top of the page:

  • The buyer hasn’t paid for an auction they’ve won, and you want to send them a reminder

Lower on the page in the green Top Takeaway box, remove this from the end of the sentence:

or if the buyer hasn’t paid and you want to send them a reminder.

Those lines of text have caused confusion for sellers ever since eBay made the change to reset the payment due date when an invoice is sent for sellers that use a manual UPI cancel process. Sellers come here and say, "but the help page says to send a reminder." We always tell sellers to ignore that part of the help page since it's a nuisance to the buyer to send invoices since eBay automatically sends payment reminders.

Now that eBay has changed invoices to prevent sending them unless making an adjustment, it's officially counter-instructive to keep those 2 lines of text on the help page.

I gotta have more cowbell.

When you send multiple invoices, it DOES NOT reset the 4 day grace period. We have always sent invoices to buyers. We even call buyers if payment isn’t made within the first 3 days. As sellers, we have every right to take these extremes! This is why eBay requires immediate payment for all BIN sales!

devon@ebay , kyle@ebay

Could you also please confirm that each time an invoice is sent to a Buyer the 4 day cancellation time period resets for cancelling using the reason Buyer hasn't paid.  I seem to recall this being discussed on a thread and confirmed by an eBay Team Member ... of course I could be wrong ...

Hey @mr_lincoln! You are correct that each time a seller sends a new invoice it would reset the 4 day cancellation period for the reasoning "Buyer has not paid".

Hey @wastingtime101! Thank you for calling that out and we will be sure to have those help pages sent over to be looked over and updated.

My sincere thanks devon@ebay

I know that @wastingtime101  posted up thread that in the case of a Seller's account set to Automatically cancel UPIs after 4 days the clock is not reset but on accounts where it is set for Manual cancellation by Sellers the clock resets as you have confirmed on my post above.  Perhaps we could those two scenarios and how the clock reset is handled in both cases?  Thanks again.
