New View Item Page Design Finalized

Just a heads up - eBay is apparently saying the first phase of the new View Item Page design has been finalized and should be rolling out to all users very soon (if you don't already have it.)

@mcdougle4248 was kind enough to share screenshots in another post, but it was closed due to age and this is too important to only have it buried at the end of a 100+ response thread.

It looks like not much has changed for the first phase from what many of us have been seeing for a few months.

eBay also says they will be testing more changes over the next year for the next phase including further optimization of the right column, moving shipping information below the price, easy access to Shipping, Payments and Returns information as well as complete seller card with feedback information, and adding a button in the image panel to direct buyers to the seller's other items (ironically the mockup looks like an almost exact copy of a test Etsy did in October).

They are also planning at some point to put a description summary module in the right column that will need to be clicked on to show full description, similar to the way the mobile app experience works today.

While that may technically fulfill the promise to move the description above the ad modules, it still does not address sellers' main complaint on this issue, in my opinion.

I honestly find it pointless to promote any of my listings on ebay with the use of social media, as ebay will just promote all your competitors identical products the moment anyone clicks the link. I would sooner send my followers to Mercari.

Musk's X is truly toxic, its turned into a platform where anything goes, not good. I'm all for freedom of speech, but his platform allows violent threats and rampant harassment to flourish. X has been losing advertisers galore in recent months as a result.

Musk has even considered removing the ability to block people, that way you can be endlessly harassed by psychopaths. Who wants to be around that?

I can understand that... What eBay's doing is certainly nothing new on the landscape of open marketplaces nor even the closed ended ones past or present.  Remember the days when so many of these places existed?  You go browse "Computers" and all see were page after page of "Feature Listings" saying, "Let us build a web store for you and make big money!" (in every conceivable poor marketing verbiage as humanly possible).  What's old is new again!

As to "X" Tweeter my accounts still there, I activate/deactivate so it doesn't get creamed in the hopes one day he gets a shirt tail caught on a Space X "Heavy" fin.  That day I shall go there and re-enable for good with the announcement, "I wonder what Nickolai Tesla would have to say about this interesting turn of events!"  LOL!!!!

I can hold my own and then some in social media environments without ever needing hit lowest common denominators.  Just not much a fan of Mister Musk albeit many of his contributions to mankind in these times are quite noteworthy and worthy of much respect.  However, with the sort of power through name, money and influence comes a responsibility as well IMHO to people far and wide and earning that respect comes from within not only one's accomplishments.

Seems eBay would rather profit from advertising rather than commissions on sales.  eBay seems to think all buyers will see the link to view description but many won't and just leave, or find it too much of a bother to continue looking on eBay and head off to Amazingon where they can actually find stuff.

"Amazingon" has its hands very very very full having been named the poster boy of global counterfeiting fraud in front of a congressional committee that has spread like a wind blown wildfire through the halls of government both here and around the world.  They're even running TV ad's trying stop the burn.  It may well be a foregone event that they will be casting out hordes of resellers next year.

Ran into something that we wonder is connected to the change.......note the return policy at the bottom of item description.

Beaware that inclusion in that spot, negates the title of the "Shipping, returns, payment tab"......

That is interesting about the return policy being at the bottom of description...I do not mind that - information is good and it is accessible and obvious.   Although i wonder if the seller added it or ebay?

Now they just need to get the description up near the pictures so people can see it without all the distracting promoted listings in the way!

Nope, apparently ebay doesn't listen to its sellers, ebay is also losing money when an item is returned, refunding most of their fees'. I get more and more questions from buyers that is in the description, either too lazy click on it or don't even see it. They do so many stupid stuff YET after 6 years the still haven't put combine shipping on the app.

Just an update - elizabeth@ebay confirmed in the other thread that the Return information being moved under the description is a bug, though from what I'm seeing it doesn't look like it's been fixed yet.

All this hoopla and "testing" various layouts only to 'finalize' a page that still doesn't address the elephant in the room.
