New Scam!! FedEx package rerouted to a different state without Seller/Sender consent!

So I have been Selling for a quite a few years and this is a New One.

I recently sold  a ~~ $1000 item.

Sent it throught FedEx Fully insured and Direct Signature Required.

The shipment went to the state /city it was intended to, after it reaches there it is rerouted to a different state and city.

By the time I saw the tracking, it was already delivered.

I called FedEx and I was shocked, how can they do it ?

So When i call them and asked them what happened and why, FedEx tells me that it was at the request of the sender, and I told them I am the sender, so FedEx tell me it was rerouted by Ebay and they said he even has a case number.

I called ebay first thing in the morning and ebay tells me that they see no request made by the buyer and they have no Idea whats going on.

Paypal just opened the case and they are reviewing the case

Someone on the inside is involved in this scam, trying to rip sellers off

I am on the phone with paypal and they have put me on an indefinite hold!!

Any insights!!

That is good to hear that you are on it.  That doesn't explain why your pointy haired bosses are denying that there is an issue at all though.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

Can this scam be pulled off with SmartPost packages, or does the hybrid (FedEx/USPS) nature of SmartPost make that impossible or at least really difficult?

Note sure about that. I'd assume Fedex being the initial carrier of record it would be possible, and we know already that USPS will redirect as long as "someone" pays for it.

IIRC the first time this came to the attention of the boards it was revealed that the supposed ebay person (the sender of record as far as Fedex is concerned) was named Nate (aka shiplikeapro's actual first name).
Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Yes it was on the shipping board and the seller was told by fedex that the person who had the package directed was Nate (they gave the seller his full name). The blues were summoned that thread and they said that it was looked into, nobody from ebay requested the redirect and that ebay didn't need to do anything further to tighten security on their fedex account to keep this from happening again. And then......more sellers started reporting the same issue with fedex & "nate from ebay" redirecting their packages 😞

I don't think Smartpost could be redirected for the reason you posit:

The FedEx leg redirect probably wouldn't work because the whole thing is set up for a handoff to USPS for last mile PS delivery, and the final delivery zipcode is already embedded in the USPS barcode on the label (and in the systems).

I just don't see FedEx vectoring the shipment to another PO in another state ( the paper trail would be messed up if they did - the USPS barcode on the label would be totally wrong unless FedEx reworked it all and slapped a new label on the package prior to USPS handoff)

A USPS Parcel Select COA/forward for the final USPS leg could probably occur though - just as for any USPS shipment.

If it was me - I would call up Fed Ex and re-quest where the package was re-routed to - then with the address - forward that informaion to the local Law Enforcement - or if ever over $3000 to the FBI - and see if they can start an investigation - may have others involved - but at least they will have a heads up on merchandise that is being ripped off.

Re: New Scam!! FedEx package rerouted to a different state without Seller/Sender consent!

Add me to the list of seller victim of this.

9 out of 10 sales on eBay since fall last year have been fraudulent.

Same thing everytime: purchase made at night, in the morning, the legit PP account holder open a case for unauthorized payment before I ship the item so we are good here until this last transaction where I shipped the item after waiting a day and ,long a behold ,the day the item was supposed to be delivered (today) the scammer had Fedex re route the package(by impersonating me) to a new location in Texas (Fedex wouldn't tell me where). Glad I kept an eye on tracking so I can have it re routed back to me. Now there is an Unauthorized Transaction claim opened.I dont know where ppl here say you only need proof of shipment to b covered..PP policy clearly states: You must ship the item to the shipping address on the transaction details page in your PayPal account for the transaction. If you originally ship the item to the recipient's shipping address on the transaction details page but the item is later redirected to a different address, you will not be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection. We therefore recommend not using a shipping service that is arranged by the buyer, so that you will be able to provide valid proof of shipping and delivery.

So be careful everyone!

OP 6/2018 very stale thread as threads are outdated at six months.

You can start a new thread if you care to.
