I was researching something for a different post and opened the MBG page. There is a blurb about new timelines at the top ... with no announcement that I can find 😞

The biggest change is sellers have 2 business days instead of 6 business days to refund after delivery confirms a return, but that was announced in the Summer Update. None of the other changes have been announced that I'm aware of.
When will eBay automatically issue a refund on my behalf?
We recommend that you refund the buyer as soon as you receive the return. However, if the item's tracking information shows confirmed delivery, 2 business days have elapsed, and the refund has not yet been issued to the buyer, eBay may automatically issue a refund on your behalf. eBay will also consider buyer and seller risk and performance data in determining whether to automate a refund.

Seems like a buyer will need to hustle if they want to get a refund now. Time to get it in the mail is still the same, five days, but receipt time has gone from 13 down to five. So if the item doesn't get back to the seller in five days, does that mean it (return for refund case) closes in seller favor on day six?

The time shown is what's allowed for transit after the buyer's 5 business days to get it to the carrier. This is about MBG returns where the seller is responsible for providing a return shipping label, so the new timeline means eBay expects First Class or Priority labels, not Ground.

A recent post in another thread stated that two buyers were refunded after the item was in the mail, but BEFORE the item was received by the seller.
That could have been a harbinger of this change and that is the way it will play out.
@goodluckselling Were those two cases that you had where the buyers were refunded while the item was still in transit to you recent ones?

Seems like a buyer will need to hustle if they want to get a refund now. Time to get it in the mail is still the same, five days, but receipt time has gone from 13 down to five. So if the item doesn't get back to the seller in five days, does that mean it (return for refund case) closes in seller favor on day six?

The International at 14 days is absolutely absurd

Not recent as in after the 2018 spring/summer seller updates. I probably have had a dozen like this in the last couple years. We are a high volume seller so occurences are probably more frequent than most sellers.
Usually after trying to resolve it with the post office (missing item investigation case) without success, I usually message the buyer up to date info about the case and tell them I will just refund them and they can purchase again if they want. Some time they do some time they don't.

14 business days is about 3 weeks. Most of my international packages arrive within 2 weeks but I'm selective about where I ship. To reiterate what I wrote above it's about shipping method - eBay wants sellers to pay for quick qhipping methods so the buyer gets a refund faster. On international returns that's pretty much in the buyer's hands though.

International shippping into Canada is taking anywhere up to 2 months again. Not fair to buyer or seller.
As a buyer, I have just stopped buying anything expensive where return time frames are set as short as possible.
I certainly would not want to be on the hook for shipping delays that I have no control over in making any return and if it is delayed, Ebay says tuff, no refund and the buyer gets the item back.

Has anyone though that this is ebay going from 13 to 5 is their attempt to lower phony snad returns and buyer fraud in low key way?

Fwiw, I think in reality everything on the buyers end is more suggestive (try getting a return closed after only fives days), while for the seller those new timelines are chiseled in stone. policy written v. policy enforced

I see it more as eBay stopping sellers from chosing the cheapest way for a return.
Buyers don't want to wait. So what happens if the seller sends a parcel label? Is that gonna be a way to have the return ruled in their favor and they still get to keep the item or will eBay refund the buyer after 5 days, item returned or not?
I've never had to do a return, but I did the other day have to refund some money. Does PayPal have a way to refund the money and not have it be an echeck?
My buyer was furious that she had to wait but it was already processing by the time she told me it wasn't there.

At one time paypal had a rule in place that seller could refund based on how the buyer paid :i.e. Payment credit card ,dibet .instand payment bank transfered and echech . Only way to refund buyer is echeck

Keep money in your Paypal account for such occurences.
