I was researching something for a different post and opened the MBG page. There is a blurb about new timelines at the top ... with no announcement that I can find 😞

I know but I'm sure he'd like to know in advance as well.
That's why I'm asking him first....lol

OK, he agreed to the test but I didn't want it to go on for days or to find out if it affected his returns.
I used just a regular reason.....didn't like it and then I used item not as described as reasons for returns.
In both cases. it accepted the returns and said that we would hear from the seller.
Now this tells me that yes, they will allow a return to go through up to the 60 day mark, however it appears the seller has a choice in accepting or not. A bit of a pain as I see it for sellers.
What I don't know. If the seller declines the return...what happens then. In the case of an INAD, can it be escalated to eBay? Do these 2 situations cause a defect for the seller. There's probably more scenario's I can't think of right now (bad nights sleep).

Thanks for your research. Hope nothing happens to your seller friend due to your research. I sure hope some Blue person reads your reply. This is just wrong. Hope you get some restful time. lolol. Really appreciate your knowledge and common sense. By the way? lololol: that return button of course is still there today WITH even more cheapo items being suggested by eBay. They really need to clear this up...I don't intend, as a seller, to give in if the buyer goes beyond my seller return window. Defect or not.

The thing I don't like is having our policies taken away. There should be no active return button period after our 30 day return policy. We really don't know how these types of returns will affect regarding the FVF ding. Another policy made on the fly. I don't know how the programmers can do their work when there isnt anything set in stone to work with. No wonder there's such a mess.
My seller was fine with the tests. He was one of the first on eBay and is a shining star in the world of sellers. He's very upset that his favorite customer can't buy anymore.

Gosh, I just thought of something: eBay in September or so will be calculating return %'s per seller and not take into consideration that the return issue was resolved. Unless I read the Board info incorrectly. Oh my, hope that won't be the case here.

I certainly do think it will be the case. Everything is designed to create more fees. This sure will.
Maybe you can start a new thread to bring attention to this?

The thing that the Ceo and rest of the folks running ebay don't understand about retail industry is that there limits on what buyers can or can't get refunded based on type of merchandise they bought and if dealer is second market 3P dealer vs the full retail 1P seller with what type of return policy is setup. The Folks and ceo running ebay Have done no retail sales

I actually started the original thread about the Button. But had to laugh when I asked seasoned posters about it. One helpful poster read through the MBG to verify its timeline and agreed the info was weasel like. But another poster said: eBay is probably trying to keep buyers reassured by leaving it on there for the extended period of time...huh? Your personal research proves they are not following the seller's policy WHICH eBay set up re: what return windows are accepted and need to be stated in the listing.

It's one more kick in the teeth is what it is. My seller did appear to know the button was there. At his level it won't affect him at all. He's pretty well protected. BUT, for others and how many others. We're already you know what with the extra fees, but we're not putting ourstock numbers over 100 anymore and will be very selective what we sell. I'm doing really well elsewhere with the 150 I took off, which is a big relief.

Ebay has a long record of not following seller and buyer UA Policy! The UA Buyer policy they will not enforced is "The item must be returned in the same condition" as they got it from the seller ! Unless the seller is a bulldog about their rights , Because that is only way for the seller to protect themselves. It isn't that hard for ebay to catch scam buyers doing the Old Switch Oroo! on returns on items over 5 pounds or over size packages based on sellers labels used to ship the item to the buyer, that did the fraud return to their seller. In last couple years of threads of buyer fraud that come up here and the powerseller boards have seller OP's that have the clear proof . One that sold a roof top Air- conditioner shipped freight Only ,and had buyer file a phony snad then ships junked pickup truck front wheel brake pads Parcel select USPS ! ebay then refunds . However after 3 months fighting ebay over it And seller get's their money back . Yet these case's are happening more offten.

I have been holding off putting up some of my more expensive items. Yet...I would love to go to another site since my program here can be manipulated to other than ebay. But, for right now until I can understand how to do it, I am here. Congratulations! are in order. Gosh, this whole thing is really depressing. Ya know what I mean?

Hi, why can't eBay have a Department that when an item is say XXX before the buyer is allowed the so called SNAD refund, they are told they have to wait on hold until this Department can investigate before the buyer is refunded? I know I am dreaming...

Ebay got their nose into snad dispute's fast in early 2007 after former Ceo JD took over . Even though Paypal handled Snad case's for years as they have for INR's because they handled online merchant payment of recorded with credit card company's . this is true if you are Merchant of recorded with bank payment processor for credit cards. Prior to 2007 ebay Had buyer protection policy only for INR's from sellers with no tracking anbd to deal with scam sellers which dropped off by 2007 . I belong to couple seller groups and over the years we talked about why ebay got into snad desputes when they didn't need too .

@lovtaco0 wrote:tyler@ebay, brian@ebay- we're looking more information about these changes to the MBG. Specifically:
1. Why was there no announcement? Aside from the summer update that said sellers have 2 business days instead of 6 business days to refund after delivery (buried in the FAQ and not called out as a change, by the way), none of these changes were posted anywhere except the policy page.
2. Return shipping transit time: When the 5 domestic or 14 international business days expire, what happens? Is a refund issued automatically or does the case sit until it's escalated? If it's escalated after the alotted time does the agent review the tracking before making a ruling or what happens?
Hi @lovtaco0, the 2 business day timeframe was included in the Summer Seller Update overview section and FAQ because it has a greater impact on sellers. The other timeframes weren't included in the update because these new timeframes are given to buyers and sellers in the returns flow and experience.
If we do not have delivery confirmation (or a return tracking number) we will not automate a refund. If we do have delivery conformation, sellers will have 2 business days from that point to issue a refund. If a refund was initiated within 2 business days but is still processing after 2 business days, we won't take action unless the refund fails. If we do not see that a refund has been initiated within 2 business days, a refund may be automated. Keep in mind that automated refunds only occur on returns if we (eBay) have not been asked to step in and make a decision.
If a buyer returns an item, provides tracking, and the item hasn't been delivered within 5 business days, either the buyer or seller can ask us to step in at that point. If tracking shows movement within the last 7 days, we'll place the case on hold for 5 days for a domestic case or 10 days for an international case to allow more time for the package to be delivered. Tracking is reviewed before any decision is made.
Let me know if I can clarify anything else
brian@ebay If the item hasn't moved in 5 days (or 7 days) will the case be closed in favor of the seller? It's not clear from your answer. Thanks!

Could you please clarify a few things for us.
I understand the return button is going to stay active for 60 days after a sale and tht should a buyer decide to return after the sellers return policy, The return details will be sent to the seller for review.
Depending on the reason for this return, could this impact the seller regarding returns and the increased FVF fees depending on the reason the customer uses.
What happens should a custom return with an INAD reason and the seller turns the return down, does eBay step in that case.
Just trying to understand the impact to the seller in having these past return date claims.
Throw me to the wolves and I'll come back leading the pack.
