New Listing Tool overriding the seller's preference not to allow offers?

I searched to see if anyone had made a post about this already, but don't see any.

I just found this little fine print nugget at the bottom of the creation page, in the New Listing Tool format.  I switched back to Classic just to see if it's there too, and it's NOT.

I can't think of any reason for this statement, given that the seller already knows they will receive buyer offers IF they (the seller) opts to enable them, when creating the listing.  And if they DON'T enable them, well that means they should not receive them, or am I crazy?  By the way, when I spied this, I was on a creation page that I had just completed and was about to hit 'List Item' and I had it set to 'Don't Allow Offers.'  Just out of curiosity, I switched it to 'Allow' to see if it changed anything, and no the statement was still there at the bottom.

The word 'we' is key, because it shows they're not talking about buyers having the ability to handwrite offers and send them to sellers in email, regardless of the setting.  No, they seem to be saying WE may get involved, and the fact that it's in tiny fine print at the bottom of the page where virtually nobody will see it, and the fact that there's nothing to click for more information ..... just me or is that sketchy?

If my memory serves me, I seem to recall seeing people here talking about their listings being changed to allow offers without their consent, and (again if I'm not misremembering) the assumption was that it was just another glitch.  But now I wonder if Ebay may be PURPOSELY showing buyers (some) listings with Make Offer enabled against the seller's wishes, figuring it will be worth annoying lots of sellers for the sake of netting some number of sales, when some sellers just cave and accept offers they didn't think they wanted.   And if they're doing this, I wonder if it's only on EA1EFABB-31B8-4500-BE01-13CFFCC3BC87_4_5005_c.jpeglistings created with the NLT, not Classic.

New Listing Tool overriding the seller's preference not to allow offers?

I haven't used the new listing tool but I have noticed a rise in lowball offers and even offers coming through eBay messaging. The reason I bring it up is because I notice that this happens even when the item is listed Buy It Now and no offers accepted.

Could be wrong, but I think that has been there for some time..........At least I've seen it somewhere for some time.  And experienced it for years.  lol, and made sales from it for years.

Well by "for years" you must mean the Classic listing tool (view, page, whatever) but check for yourself, it's not there.
And what do you mean by "and made sales from it for years"?  Like ebay has sent you offers from buyers even though you set the listings for 'Don't allow offers'. If you were willing to entertain them, why not just enable them from the start?  Sorry I'm really confused by your reply.

But when you say 'lowball offers' do you mean official offers with an Accept/Decline option to click?  Or just emails written by buyers?

I put Best Offer on at various times and take it off for various reasons.......running a sale.......using PL.......etc.

And I get message offers from buyers in any case (whether b/o is on or not)......  I figure some don't know/understand/want to dicker, etc. using b/o.    Some of the offers are good enough to accept, others I counter and some of those sell.......  Frankly, I like the process better than b/o as the buyer has to do a bit more work to use it.....and therefore may be more serious about the offer so more likely to pay.   And the message offers really have been coming for years.

Just my opinion, no real proof, except that they usually do pay, altho in last couple of months have had 2 that didn't.
