WHAT IS EBAY DOING??
I was in bulk editor and noticed a new "error" now appears that tells me most my listings are missing UPC field and to fix them (as shown):
When you try to bypass this and select check box to edit all and save, you now get this pretty little message: "xxx of your listings have errors and cannot be submitted until the errors are fixed"
Who at ebay has conjured up this idiocy??? Few hard facts:
1. Not all sellers sell new items or items that have UPC codes
2. Items without UPC codes are near impossible to find
3. Example: I sell a lot of vinyl - music - which a lot of it is manufactured without UPC codes as many labels for underground metal do not use UPC codes (this isn't limited to vinyl, just example so you understand).
This needs to be taken away, it's completely silly and ridiculous!

@nuclearomen Bar codes in general really didn't gather strength until the 1980s ... most things we sell here were made long before UPC codes came in to existence. Correct me if I am wrong but does this seem to be targeting NIB items opposed to "Used".

it doesn't matter how long bar codes have been in effect, the simple matter is not all items use UPC codes, so to have an error message saying that ebay refuses to update your bulk edit because listings on items are missing UPC is completely moronic.

Under the category Music --> Records UPC is a required field so if you don't have a UPC you need to use Does Not Apply. If the field is left blank you will get those errors.
I'm not sure if UPC being required is new in that category but if it is that would explain why your listings are facing this error now when they didn't before.

i'll go through it again and see if it allows me to add that option in bulk edit...i know i can manual edit... thanks for the info, I forgot there was a "do not apply" option... good catch!

...so you can do it in bulk editor but you cannot do them in bulk, only one at a time, because bulk editor does not have UPC bulk edit field, everything else does... just another ebay change to waste my time for the rest of the night going into each listing to click "does not apply"

Is it possible this is related somehow to internet sales tax?

I think most of us have been there at some point as UPC became a required field in our categories and many items don't have a UPC.
eBay doesn't include it as a bulk edit field because their general view (I assume based on what eBay has said in the past) is that you wouldn't use the same UPC for more than one item- and they don't want to make it easy to bulk add Does Not Apply because it could encourage sellers to use that option even when UPCs are available. It's a case of those gaming the system ruining it for sellers that play by the rules.

i do understand why they want people to list UPC's, as it can also help determine if a product is official, official licensed, or bootleg...
I got half of the listings as "dose not apply" in bulk edit (one by one) then had to save and back out cause the remaining listings wouldn't load... I'll go back in and fix those remaining listings in few moments.
For the items that do have UPC's I'll have to go through inventory tomorrow and then go through those listings again in manual edit and add them.... that will be a full day endeavor... luckily I'm down to only like 113 listings right now as haven't been adding much lately, got plenty sitting here but I've not had much motivation lately to list.

But .... just think of how many more new UCP codes ebay will end up with to fill in their catalogue when everybody adds them to their listings! Whether they work or not - meh. But the field will be filled.
