New 1st class - 3 questions

We have an auction with a bid that ends on 7/9,  and it has 1st class as first option with priority as second.

Question one - will the 1st class 'show' grayed out or disappear when they (hopefully) go to pay, or can they still pick it.

two - will the new 1st class appear in it's place.

three - MOST importantly, will the new 1st class appear on the print label shipping page options list.

New 1st class - 3 questions

#1. eBay has said that sellers have 30 days to update the shipping sections in their listings, though it's unclear what the listings will look like after July 9.  Perhaps First Class will still show up in the buyers' view. Conveniently, the prices will stay the same for packages up to 15.99 ounces.

#2. There is no "new 1st class".  eBay has stated pretty clearly that the new service (Ground Advantage) will NOT automatically show up in place of "First Class package."

#3. eBay has said that the label options will change immediately to reflect the new "Ground Advantage" service.

Thank you.

We know we could have updated - aka remove - 1st class but as there was no replacement, even the new replacement with a 'not available till ...' note, we 'took a chance' that nothing would get a bid before the change.

BUT if the cost of the replacement is the same as 1st was, and it's shown to buyer at checkout, no problem - but you say it won't be - BUT if the 'old' 1st is still shown and picked by buyer, if the new one is available on the label page, then no problem ... I think.

And we will always call the 'new' service 1st class, just as we still call 'media' book rate - we old and happily stuck in our ways.

You should be just fine.  When USPS makes changes like this there is always a grace period.  You have nothing to worry about.

Make sure on the 9th you start changing your listings to be Ground Advance for your First Class Parcel.

Keep in mind the pricing didn't change.  They just reclassified FCP.

Now if you sell anything that goes Media Mail, those rates do go up on the 9th.

My earlier post apparently wan't clear, so I'll re-state it: Starting on July 9, you have 30 days in which to change the shipping in your listings from "First Class package" to "Ground Advantage."  You are charging a flat price for shipping, so an alternative is that if you don't want to wait until July 9, you can change it now, from First Class to generic "Standard."

Does anyone know yet if there will be a way to filter which of my listings are calculated 1st class?

I don't know about that, but I just use the bulk editor.  I have a set rate I charge for the various rates for ounces with 1st Class.  So I can easily spot what is FC and what is going Media Mail.  I did that because USPS changes their rates so often and it was driving me nuts changing all the listings.

It might be an approach you consider.  I know it changed my world and really cut down on the time I had to spend adjusting listings.

Guess again.  FCPs that will become Ground Advantage are going up in price.  And if you change your listings to "Ground Advance"  you're really going to have problems.  And I'm not sure what USPS "grace period" you're talking about.  The changes take effect July 9, and that's it.

No, there is no price change.  The prices for packages up to 15.99 ounces will be the same after July 9 as they are today.

The only exception is Retail packages above 12 ounces being shipped to Zones 8 and 9; currently the price for 13 ounces (the current weight limit) is $8.25 and after July 9 the price for packages above 12 ounces (up to 15.99) will be $8.55.

Why not use calculated shipping, so it updates automatically?

Slow down.  USPS is allowing 30 days for everyone to get their listings / websites reading Ground Advantage rather than the current FCP.  This is nothing unusual.  It would be unrealistic to think that every site everywhere could and would have their sites ready to show Ground Advantage for all appropriate things on the day it starts.

And yes, if you ship FCP on the 8th, it will really be handled as GA.  USPS changes on the 9th.

I should have been more detailed in my statement that the rates were not going up.  They aren't for anything under a pound.  There are some increases for heavier items.

I can't tell if people are intentionally being obtuse here.

This really isn't the big deal people are making it out to be.

Note on USPS website:  Note for Business Mailers: The Postal Service allows a grace period to implement USPS Ground Advantage™ Service Type Codes (STCs) until September 30, 2023.

So, if you ship a parcel marked first class, it will be accepted until Sept 30.

You can already revise your listings from 1st class to ground advantage but it looks like they have not changed the pricing structure

There is no change to make.  The prices for Ground Advantage are the same as the current First Class package prices, except for Retail prices for weights above 12 ounces.
