I just received a negative from a buyer who had bought an item about a month ago. They just said "The item was damaged in delivery." They did not contact me before leaving the feedback.
I guess this is not one that ebay would help me remove? Probably just up to me to try to work it out with the buyer, correct? I've already messaged them to apologize and offer compensation. If I don't hear back, I thought I'd just refund their money and let them know I did so and also send a feedback revision request if perhaps they feel like they could revise. Thanks.

That's a perfect plan. The buyer may or may not revise for you, but you will have done everything you can do.
You could leave a reply, along the lines of "No contact. Apology & full refund promptly issued".
Cancel the transaction through eBay to issue a full refund & get your fvf credit.

A call is not a good idea. It's kind of intrusive and it is a good idea to have a paper trail. You can contact them through the Ebay message systerm. Since you get a limited amount of feedback revisions, contacting the buyer to ask if they would like one after you refund and apologize is a good idea. Otherwise you might offend the buyer, who gets a refund and an apology and a feedback revision suggesting you automatically think he should just go ahead and revise it. He may or may not want to, but that is his choice.
You might also want to explain that you see he is new, welcome to ebay, so sorry you received a broken item, but you can always contact your seller first for resolution. He may be grateful for your help and understanding.
Later you can say again that you are sorry, but would like to ask him if he would consider revising his feedback. Please let you know and you would be happy to send him this request.
Sorry this happened to you, OP. Good Luck.

I never reach out to those who neg me. I figure if they can't contact me to resolve any issues before leaving a neg, then chances are they couldn't care less if I offer resolution in exchange for feedback revision. I block them and move on.

"You could leave a reply, along the lines of "No contact. Apology & full refund promptly issued"."
-------
Also know as:
"I'll give you everyone a full refund and let them Keep the item for Free, if they claim it's damaged"
Perhaps you'd have less future problems with this:
"Apologies. And offering Full Refund, including all shipping costs, after Item Return"

If I had as much feedback and obvious successful selling history as you have, I wouldn't let this one negative bother me. Feedback doesn't affect your DSR anymore. Buyers hardly look at it. Is it really worth all the hassle and expense (refunding the buyer) to get this removed? I would just let it go and move forward.
