Negative Feedback Question

I received my first negative feedback in nearly 20 years.  😕.   The buyer seems new to eBay.  He waited nearly 2 months to leave negative feedback (never contacted me first), saying I didn’t accurately describe a pair of jeans.  Waist tag says 36, the style tag number is relaxed fit (I googled it when I listed it).  Evidently they don’t fit (he says they fit like a 20” waist skinny fit 🙄) and that’s my fault although he even says the waist tag says 36.  I responded to his feedback in a professional manner. I know experienced eBay buyers won’t be scared away from my rating but I’m still bummed that dropped from 100% to 97.5%.   Is there anything more I should do?

Thanks everyone for your replies!  I appreciate your comments and insight.

 

I agree I should provide more measurements and will do that going forward.  

I don’t think I’ll pursue the matter with the buyer.  I feel he’s ticked off and thinks he was somehow scammed.  I highly doubt he’ll ship the jeans back at his expense so think it’ll just end here.  

on the bright side, I made an eBay sale today and a nicer one on another site so that’s eased some of the sting.

Chevymontecarlo88 just wanted to say I love your name.  I had a 2001 SS (Ms Monte) that I LOVED, but she was smashed by a falling tree during a storm in 2020.  I now have a Mitsubishi Eclipse, Ms Bishi or Piece O’**bleep**sky depending on my mood, lol.  Fast little thing though!

Men tend to have proportionately short legs - a 30" inseam isn't that unusual for a pretty average height guy, but yeah, he's gonna be a husky dude as well!  When I used to do alterations as a side gig hemming men's pants was big business - they were always too long, and my customers all looked perfectly average. 

 

What I do with baggy fit jeans like this is give the rise as well as the inseam and length from top of waistband to hem - don't know if it does much good these days as I've gotten away from selling men's clothing (though I certainly wear it), but I used to sell a lot of sk8tr, rave, etc., stuff (and wear it) and have handled jeans with way shorter inseams that are made for taller guys - but it's a speciality market.

Yes, call eBay and ask for a Courtesy removal, you should get approved since you never have asked before & if they don't, continue asking until they do. I have got all of my negative feedbacks removed this way or automatically removed per feedback protection because of offering free returns. Their is no reason any seller(especially if you have free returns) should ever have a negative feedback as it is easy to remove. That is, unless, it is totally warranted which I have seen some wild seller responses that makes the negative warranted.

Same thing happened to me today - sold slacks with pictures of size posted on listing. They gave me a negative review because they said it didn't fit. What really made me upset was that I have a no return policy, but she emailed me and I said I would accept a return. She didn't know how to do it. I walked her through the steps and she still couldn't do it. Then I gave her steps to contact an ebay agent and they would do it. A week past and she left this bad review that it did not fit. As if that is my problem. The pictures showed the size.

Though it STINGS...wear your red donut  "badge of honor" with pride.  They don't count for anything anymore anyway.  There are TRS+ sellers that get a hundred or more  red donuts a week.

Blue jeans are the most unreliable clothing item as far as sizing goes.  When they are manufactured the material is stacked, the pattern determined and then they are cut.  Due to the weight of the fabric the cut pieces are smaller at the top and bigger the further down the stack you go.  The same size will subsequently have different measurements.

The one thing you can do is to consider offering returns ... particularly on items such as jeans, which everyone wants to fit 'just right'.    [I personally would never purchase a pair of jeans online ... UNLESS it was a brand and style I am familiar with.]

 

Had you posted earlier about the problem ... we could have advised you to work with the buyer in the hopes they'd be willing to revise the feedback.  [Unfortunately, sellers must send buyers a 'feedback revision request' within 30 days of the feedback being left ... and yours was left more than 30 days ago.  ☹️ ]
