Hello,
I have a refurbished laptop that I need to sell as I have already listed it once before. I have it set as a fixed price listing. I have several people watching it , however nobody has bought it yet. Seeing as I only have a little over a day left before the listing ends would it be a good or bad idea to lower the price?
Thanks

If you trying to sell right away then yes dropping the price would help. Cutting into profits is tough but its the good vs bad. Best regards

Electronics are a high-scam category. Brand new sellers offering electronics are targets. Were you aware of this?

Yes, I know. I have already dealt with three scam attempts. Are you suggesting I do something?

Only suggesting that you have your eyes wide open.
Myself, if I needed to sell a $1,300 laptop, I would make it "local pickup only" with "payment at pickup" so I could specify cash and final sale, which is eBay-legal for pickup. When eBay announced the Spring Seller Update, and the next 2, we were put on notice that sellers have now lost all protection and buyers rule.
Most people are honest and most transactions are great. But electronics and a new seller? All bets are off.
Best of luck to you.

How would you require a cash payment?

No offense, but that's a bit like asking us whether you should buy a dump truck or a bicycle.
Taking your post literally, the only reason you give for your need to sell it is because you have "already listed it once before". But I don't think that is really the reason for needing to sell it, because othewise you would have just listed it for $1 🙂
We have no idea what your needs, motivation, or financial situation are. For instance, what is more important to you - selling it fast, or getting the most money for it?

And actually keeping the money you receive.
On Ebay, buyers have thirty days to get their money back. On Paypal and with credit cards it's 180 days.
Food for thought.

How do they get their money back?

A buyer can file a false SNAD complaint and get a full refund from you.

1) Buyer pays $1225 for your laptop via PayPal.
2) You send laptop to buyer (hopefully with signature confirmation).
3) Buyer fines a Not As Described dispute (overheats, battery won't charge, etc).
4) You are forced to pay for a shipping label so buyer can return it
5) Buyer returns a phone book instead of a laptop
6) You find out eBay will not investigate and will side with the buyer
7) eBay takes the $1225 back from your PayPal account
In the end, you have no laptop, no money, and have paid the cost of shipping both ways.
On eBay, any buyer can steal any item from any seller at any time by using a fraudulent Not As Described claim.
IMHO do not sell anything you cannot afford to lose.

Too risky to foward that sale. Better use cash in hand.

And right on schedule, a seller has just posted his own hard luck story about this very scam!
