Need Advice on Auction. Incorrect info in title, too late to edit.

Made an auction, didn't double check title. It's for 4 HALF Dollar Coins (accidentally left out the word "HALF", so the title reads

"4 SILVER DOLLAR LOT: 1943 Walking Liberty / 1960 Ben Franklin / (2x)1964 Kennedy"

I immediately received two bidders.. within minutes of listing. Obviously in every other part of the listing it says they are .50 pieces, any coin collector would immediately know.  Since there were already bids, I did the only thing I could and added a note to the bottom of the description stating they are in fact HALF dollar coins.

What do you think the chances are a bidder would intentionally bid and buy, and file an Item Not as Described case? I have "No Returns Accepted" on this listing so I believe I would be giving the buyer a free return shipping label if they opened this case against me, or could they refuse to return AND receive a refund? I hesitate to even make this post to give someone the idea to do this. If I let this auction proceed, before shipping I will be sending an email to the high bidder making sure they know these are HALF dollars, not sure if that is good enough to protect me considering Ebay goes out of their way to not help sellers in many situations. I know there are enough good people in the forums here that can offer me a suggestion of my best action to take here.

Should I bite the bullet and end the auction and pay the fee? Any suggestions are appreciated and thank you in advance.

Hi @aale5367

Yes, i would take down the listing and fix it. Cancel the bids first, giving your bidders your apologies snd assurance that you will relist once corrected.

Contradictory information in a listing is a big risk for the seller. If a Not As Described claim were made, you would automatically lose.

Very high chance bidders would miss that detail, very high.

You are welcome.

Another reason to end the listing is that conflicting information in a listing is a violation of policy, see link below. Of course, this is a small mistake, done inadvertently, but it’s usually better to err on the side of caution, than to add to one’s already substantial risks we sellers face on eBay.

”…All the words in the listing need to be accurate and refer only to the item for sale.”

I ended it, paid the fee and relisted. And wouldn't you know it- the two bidders that put a bid on the listing within minutes of the auction going up the first time have not bid on it after relisting. I even sent them emails explaining the situation and apologizing, telling them they will be able to bid on it again in a few minutes when the error in the title is corrected and it is relisted. Probably saved me a big headache and some money too. Thank you again.

Even if there were nothing wrong with your title, a buyer who was looking to scam you could file a Not As Described case.

But that aside ...

IMHO errors and inconsistent in listings increase the likelihood of an issue with a buyer. But I do not know enough about coins to know to what extent this error might cause an issue.

Re: Need Advice on Auction. Incorrect info in title, too late to edit.

As far as coins and currency go, I think this would have definitely been a problem if they were looking to scam and as was said by you and fashunu4eeuh- I would have lost an IND case, and the fact that these two original bidders aren't interested now that the title is correct gives me the impression that an IND or something similar was their intention insofar as trying get the refund AND keep the coins in the worst case scenario (claiming counterfeit or similar since their "DOLLAR" coins they purchased say "HALF DOLLAR" on them so they must be fakes).

This all happened within the span of about an hour: Original auction listed, two bidders/bids within 5 minutes of auction starting (both with very low feedback score/ newer accounts), emails sent to both bidders apologizing and letting them know it will be relisted in a couple minutes, relisted it correctly, neither of the two has placed a bid this time. They wanted it bad enough to bid immediately on the first one within minutes but now are uninterested? I thought about putting them on the blocked buyers list but I don't even know if it's worth it and maybe they really are just truly interested buyers, I am kind of curious to see if they eventually do bid on the auction.

I think I made the right move. Thank you both for the advice and input.
