I cannot get anything to sell on eBay and I have sell worthy items! I think I'm going to get away from eBay altogether and try other avenues. Any help would be appreciated. I'm totally sick of this!

You are a new seller. It can take time to get established.

I took a look at your listings, and had a few thoughts. You have done some solid work on them. Good job! I would suggest you make some adjustments to your titles, as well as to your expectations on what is in demand, what items may be long-tail, and what may not be a good fit for this platform. But it is all part of the eBay learning curve, and to be expected.

Take for example, the Beauty and the Beast vhs tape. There are currently over 9100 listings for that title. How will your listing stand out from a crowd of thousands? Your title is “Vintage, rare, Beauty and the Beast, Black Diamond Collectors edition”.

With so many tapes on this title available, i would drop the “rare” for a more apt keyword that someone may use when searching for this item. “VHS Tape” for example is a more appropriate identifier.

In addition, drop all punctuation from the title. Search engines don’t like punctuation when placing info on their platforms. Those commas may prevent Google, Bing and the like from including your listing on their pages. As well as affect your search placement on eBay. Below is a link from eBay’s Help pages on SEO you might find helpful.

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing-and-marketing/boost-traffic-with-seo.html

Moving on to price for your tape, you have yours set at $24.00. When looking at Completed listings, quite a few have gone unsold, and of those that did sell, many were under $10, including those that sold for under $1. Out of 3100+ completed listings, only 589 sold.

Selling on eBay can be tough work. When you are at the beginning, learning the ropes, it can be doubly so. So i would suggest taking a hard look at the items you have selected for sale, tweak your titles, and compare your listings to your competition and Completed’s. Hang in there, you have made a great start. The sales will come if you stick with it. Good luck.

welcome to the club.  I had about 10 things listed priced to sell, one sold, relisted, suddenly one with no watchers has three and a bid within 24 hours.  Makes no sense.  eBay search is beyond messed up, unless you search for a specific item by name you can't find anything.

Oh RLY?

Did you look at what the OP has listed?

Sorry but it IS what they have listed or rather what they don't have listed..

*Side-note*

A little lighter fluid or Goo Gone might get Duncan off of there. You have the tapes priced for collectors, but they don't pay that price when they're defaced. As-is, they're at the "keep the kids quiet for awhile" grade which is thrift store price value (a buck or two).

Good luck~

You're not bringing anything to the table, Posting ID - the rest of us are offering our experience in selling in those markets.

Great idea - except it is written on the actual tape itself, so please do not try and get it off there and get something onto the tape itself, etc.

OP - some great advice here.  It is likely more about the items you have listed currently.  Good luck as you work to resource some different items and come back to the boards if you need assistance with keywords or listings in general.

I would be sick too if nobody wanted to buy my stuff.   But i certainly wouldn't blame ebay.  I would blame the person in charge of what you are selling.

@hi_406979   Diversify what you offer and increase the number of items you have for sale.  Do Sold search research before you list something for sale to make sure you are priced competitively or if it is even worth listing.   You can do that on eBay by typing the name of the item in the Search window then clicking search.

The list that is returned will be current listings and what people are asking for their items.  Next, look over in the left gutter and scroll down to the Sold filter box and check it.  The list of items from search will now update to what they actually sold for in the last 90 days.  You will notice the prices are green and any with a strike through line means they were sold as the result of a Best Offer.  In this case the actual selling price is unknown but lower than the displayed price.

When it comes to collectibles keep in mind that the sold search is just a guideline and you should not be afraid to price your item higher if you consider your item is in better condition than the ones you see on the list.

For starters, you aren't getting any sales because you have nothing for sale. You're also selling in categories that are overly saturated with millions upon millions of listings from literally millions of sellers. You have just 11 listings, which isnt going to drive traffic, nor meaningful sales. Let's use some logic here, If Walmart only had 11 items for sale, they wouldnt be in business.

Likewise, you have duplicate listings; specifically the "Aladdin Black Diamond" edition VHS, which ebay's algorithms will punish you for by dropping your rank in search results. This is why I just follow the rules, and I recommend others do the same.

Something else to note, rank in search results is heavily tied to your sales performance. Its something you have to earn, ebay isnt going to just hand it to you. The more successful sales you get in a given category, the higher you rank. This is easy to see with a quick search for just about any commercial product, the sellers with thousands of successful sales and feedback typically get first priority in search results.

I currently have close to 1,000 movies and well over 1,500 listings total right now, and I'm hardly getting any sales right now. ebay now gives store subscribers thousands of free listings every month, I get 50,000 for my media based categories.

Many sellers are listing like crazy now because they know they wont be charged listing fees. Those free listings further increase competition across many categories. I am definitely feeling the squeeze from it myself.

My recommendation to you is to actually make a solid effort and actually list stuff for sale. This requires a great deal of time, energy, and effort. You will only get out what you put in.

To better note the issues you're facing, look at the image below. This is what I saw directly below your listings, a ton of sellers undercutting your prices. selling on ebay is a cut-throat business, its hard to compete here.

One thing you could do to help break from the competition is to offer sales promotions, like buy 2 get 1 free, or a percentage off, etc. ebay will give your listings more of those promoted listing slots if you offer promotions of some kind.

Posting items on eBay does not guarantee that they will sell. Your items are yard sale items, nothing special but someone might pay 50 cents or a dollar per item. If you can't sell these items here, you certainly won't be able to sell them anywhere else. If you are sincere about selling on eBay then spend some time learning how eBay works and what sells. If not then just hold your yard sale. Good luck.

That is how you are suppose to search. Always type the specific item you want. Don't just type a single word or you will get a zillion listings. Don't type a sentence expecting the search to show you specific what you want. Sounds like you should practice searching so you can get the hang of it.

The OP's items are not hidden and Ebay has nothing to do with a buyer buying or not. OP ignore what the downers say about Ebay as people can see your items.

VHS tapes do still sell, I sell them all the time. I sold 3 to a single buyer this past week. While its true they don't sell very fast, they do produce exceptional profits. They're cheap to obtain and to ship. They are also easy to package and unlikely to get damaged during shipping.

I pay 50 cents on average for my VHS tapes, then I sell them for an average of $5 to $10 each.

While VHS may be dying off, some companies have started producing VHS players again. Theres also a lot of older films on VHS that had very little or no production runs on DVD/digital.

VHS tapes aren't a first priority for me though, its usually what I list when I run low on new inventory.

As others have said, I just want to repeat, I really do believe that fact that summer is in full swing now coupled with the fact 2020 was a COVID-lockdown year many people are really enjoying being outside and shopping locally since most people were really not able to do that for awhile.

I think once it becomes fall things will pick back up again and stay indoors more and be looking online for things in preparation for the holidays.

So keep on listing items and remember to check the "sold" listings for each to see for how much and how frequently those items sold for in the last 2-3 months.

Also I recommend you read and make sure to thoroughly understand the 3 following links if you have not already, at a minimum, before continuing on ebay:

Selling policies

Managed payments

Additionally, if you have spare time, hanging around these forums and just reading topics randomly (along with the "Buying" forums), you can learn A LOT of information from the experienced buyers and sellers here who volunteer their time to help out those in need.

Wish you the best of luck!

Why limit yourself to eBay.  Aren't you setup elsewhere too?  Etsy, Sellfy, Facebook Marketplace, etc...

I too, have had a sales slump that is very unusual for my store. No sales in about 5 days. I have quality items & great prices. Lowering the price & adding specials, don't seem to help. Hope it picks up soon.
