Did you used to run 4, maybe 5 or 10 sales a month? Now, you can only run ONE SALE, per item, a month....how, ill explain.
You must have an item listed for 14 days prior to it going on sale...great, so on day 15 i can run a sale from day 15-17 and then 18-25, etc, etc, etc, so on? NO! If your sale ends after one day, or 2 or even a week, ANY ITEM that didn't sell can not be put on another sale for an entire 14 more days...aka your listing will end by that time, and by the time you relist/sell similar, you're going to have to wait 14 days again.
So in theory, you can ONLY run 1 sale per month for EACH item..
Keeping track of the 14 days, when you have hundreds or thousands of items is going to be nearly impossible...I relist/sell similar listings every single day...meaning every day another 5-10, 10-20 or however many items you relist a day, will be elidgable every 14 days...If you relist items every day or even once a week, then you will ALWAYS have items that aren't on sale. That means 'entire inventory' selection on markdown manager will NEVER actually be your full store..
Get ready for a big mess and a huge hassle for those who use markdown manager religiously...
I have came to realize that this might make ebay a lot more money, while hurting almost ALL SELLERS....Your items, half the time, won't be on sale...meaning a HUGE, HUGEEEE amount of people will most definitely start using Promoted Listings to make up for the 50% of the time they can't run a sale on THEIR OWN items. So instead of running a 30% off sale days 1-14, many will run promoted listings to make up for lack of exposure with their higher prices...But figuring out when and how with so many newly listed items a day, will be near impossible...you'd have to wait for your listings to relist in bulk so they all start and end on the same day. or relist 1/2 on 'x' day and they other half on day 'y'... no listings any day you feel at random if you use markdown manager, because it would be an extremly confusing mess.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, SHOULD BE A TON OF FUN

I have two words for you.
Buying ID
I have a separate one for selling.

Many use posting ids. You can't go by what that id shows. There may be another id that is actively selling right now.

Pretty sure of ebay's inability to understand how sales help sell products. People just respond better to items on sale. They see a red line through an item and are attracted to it more. We're not doing anything illegal or tricking customers. Its psychology 101 and business 101. People just like a deal.

Ive ranked about the new rules for markdown manager...and call i can say is it sucks, sucks, and sucks...my sales are down..regardless of if its a real sale...markdown manager is a bulk editing tool...So you pay for a store and now dont have that...sucks, sucks, sucks...Im still beyond mad...If id put say 63 total items on sale id get 3 sales...now i can use the sales...now zeron sales...especially to drive sales over a weekend...Ebay hates sellers wants us to fail so they can just be chinese importers...This one bad move by ebay may kill my 6 year old business...so tired of their foolish schemes thats make no sense...

This is commonly what happens when someone doesn't "hear what they want to hear". Once someone is told something other than what "they want to hear" they run to the account info and try to use something/anything make things personal to discredit the other party or start with the whole "works for ebay" thing. It is sad but a fact of reality here.
It happens here everyday......but you do already know this. 🙂

Well business 101 also says you adapt to changes. So now it is time to figure out some other way to drive sales. Like IDK...just lowering prices so buyers see the actual price you are willing to sell for instead of the large markdown....which just lets them know you price high to begin with in order to markdown.
Pyscology has changed some over the years
TIme to stop blaming everyone else for things you do not want to change, sellers from other countries that just sell for what they want/or need to make on an item are not the reason for your issue.

Lowered prices, added best offer, free shipping, and free returns. Still no visibility! Sales, views, and watches are all significantly down. "Psychology" really hasnt changed that much over the years in regards to selling. Consumers are always attracted to the larger sale. Markdown manager also helped add visibilty to premium sellers as it helped weed through the millions of sellers on starter accounts. You don't realize it now but this will end up hurting your business. Ebay is forcing the market to lower prices in order to compete, and eventually you will feel this as you too will have to lower prices. Like you said though people will adapt and I believe ebay just opened the door for other ecommerce sites to take over as more and more sellers will jump ship. You might be thinking that this is good and it will help unsaturate the market, but with the sellers so go the buyers and I believe this is the begining of the end for ebay.

And you've never bought anything because it was on sale?
Or run a sale yourself?
I need to save a cut and paste of my explanation because I just can not go through it again.
But here goes.
There are honest sales and dishonest sales.
Yes I have purchased many things on sale where the reduction was taken off the price they have actually sold it at.
But you can't raise the price, only to lower it again, and base the sale off the raised amount. You cannot lead someone to believe they are getting a better deal than they actually are.

What it tells me is to just wait because you will just be putting it on an even bigger sale tomorrow or next week.

Umm...ebay has never been the largest eccommerce site and sellers have always come and gone here as they do on every other site.
And running a sale hasn't added visibility in some time....in case you missed it ebay totally 100% controls if you will be seen or not. None of that get a store, run a sale, do promoted listings, do free shipping etc has any bearing when ebay decides you are not going to be seen. Been like this for a while now.
And running a sale "every weekend" has just let buyers know you are listing high so you can regularly mark items down......and BTW almost the concept as you saying ebay is driving down market values...you just want to do it on a weekly basis on your own terms.

I think I'm just going to close my eBay Store, cut back my listings from 60 to under 50, tinker with the Best Offer option and numbers and start looking at other options for selling my items. I'm going to try out one item on a certain social networking site's Marketplace. If that works out good.................
