Did you used to run 4, maybe 5 or 10 sales a month? Now, you can only run ONE SALE, per item, a month....how, ill explain.

You must have an item listed for 14 days prior to it going on sale...great, so on day 15 i can run a sale from day 15-17 and then 18-25, etc, etc, etc, so on? NO! If your sale ends after one day, or 2 or even a week, ANY ITEM that didn't sell can not be put on another sale for an entire 14 more days...aka your listing will end by that time, and by the time you relist/sell similar, you're going to have to wait 14 days again.

So in theory, you can ONLY run 1 sale per month for EACH item..

Keeping track of the 14 days, when you have hundreds or thousands of items is going to be nearly impossible...I relist/sell similar listings every single day...meaning every day another 5-10, 10-20 or however many items you relist a day, will be elidgable every 14 days...If you relist items every day or even once a week, then you will ALWAYS have items that aren't on sale. That means 'entire inventory' selection on markdown manager will NEVER actually be your full store..

Get ready for a big mess and a huge hassle for those who use markdown manager religiously...

I have came to realize that this might make ebay a lot more money, while hurting almost ALL SELLERS....Your items, half the time, won't be on sale...meaning a HUGE, HUGEEEE amount of people will most definitely start using Promoted Listings to make up for the 50% of the time they can't run a sale on THEIR OWN items. So instead of running a 30% off sale days 1-14, many will run promoted listings to make up for lack of exposure with their higher prices...But figuring out when and how with so many newly listed items a day, will be near impossible...you'd have to wait for your listings to relist in bulk so they all start and end on the same day. or relist 1/2 on 'x' day and they other half on day 'y'... no listings any day you feel at random if you use markdown manager, because it would be an extremly confusing mess.

This new markdown manager is such a mess!! My sales have dropped significantly since this change has taken place. I'm a full time seller too so it hurts really bad when my sales drop. I thought it was something I was doing wrong but it must be all around the board. It's so discouraging and makes me not want to use ebay any longer!

honestabe411....your post said it very well. I have been at a loss for weeks now. My sales have dropped dramatically. I did try to use the promotion tool...all items 11% off and it took effect, but it DOES NOT SHOW that the item is 11% off until the customer puts it in their cart (it does say at the top of the listing 11% off but its barely noticeable and the price shown does not reflect that sale) This is so useless because a customer is not even aware that the item is 11% and they are still buying the item and only realizing they got a deal after its in their cart!! Meaning they would have paid full price! lol EBay really stinks. If you ever figure out another way please let us know!! Thanks for your post!

Omg I have never heard my thoughts expressed so well by others!!! I just did THE SAME EXACT THING AS YOU...lol I changed every price myself because the stuff is JUST SITTING AND NOT SELLING. Now it wont go on sale because I changed the price??? Poor Ebay they are just screwing themselves. Makes no sense. Thanks for your post!

Its not that everything has to be on sale...its just a great tool for finding that "sweet spot " on pricing...we all list our items at an original price just trying to guess what it will sell at...we dont want to go too low initially or too high...so alot of us pick a reasonable price-LIST IT-and then wait a few days to see if we get any watchers or any interest-if we do not then we know we should lower the price and the best way to do that is to go into markdown manager and just select all of those listings and mark them down 10% or whatever. Now we cannot do that for 14 days so alot of our newly listed items (NOT ALL-some sell at the newly listed price) just sit there...thats a long time to wait to sell items. Its absolutely insane on Ebays end actually. Hope that made sense:)

Worst move made against sellers. Been selling on ebay for about 20 years. These sales help small sellers compete against the big sellers because it helps move you up in searches. I sell laptops. I run sales on laptops. Changing this has killed my sales by 70-80 percent. Cost two people their job since i am not selling much i can't pay them and i am just one seller. There are thousands like me. Many who depend on the revenue stream to support their family and create jobs. My business had been growing on ebay for 3 straight years and then some person at ebay with no knowledge of how sellers do things makes a change and kills all growth and basically slows businesses to the point they are not able to make any money. I already pay fees for listing and selling. I also pay for my store. I also have my listing on promoted listing and ebay takes another 6% of my sales. Ebay gets a big chunk of my selling price. You think they would do everything to help us, not hurt us. After all of this cost are margins are already low due to having to offer free shipping to be competitive and ebay now has built in free returns at the cost of the seller. No problem with any of this as long as you can move product. Don't understand why Ebay is making these decisions. If I am losing 80% of sales they are are losing 80% of my fees. Their fees have to be tanking. If I am a stockholder I would be asking why. Are they trying to be Amazon with these moves? Whats next no custom ads like amazon? Just a universal ad? Cmon EBAY put the markdown manager back like it was so sellers and ebay can make money. Bad bad BAD decision to do this to sellers. I love Ebay but this is ridiculous.

Sellers are allowed to list for whatever amount they want. It does not have to be listed for market value. Ebay nor any other site has any such rules.
At the end of the day it is the buyer that will decide what they are will to pay or not. There are buyers that may be willing to pay for market values and some that won't and want to pay flea merket prices for everything.
Ebay also doesn't set market values ..... they try to but they do not. The actual market is much more far reaching then one selling site.

The only thing sellers are required to do is to list/describe the item accurately and provide accurate shipping. All ebay can do is suggest pricing....but no one has to listen to that.

Some people just keep making up rules that do not exist when all they really have is a personal opinion based on what they think it should be for them.

Use the markdown manager or not but if you do find a way to use it to your benefit. Adapt.
Sitting around saying I can't or won't isn't going to fix this for anyone.

This 14 day before markdown sales benefits no one but eBay what I have seen people ben raising the promotion cost to make sells during 14 days so who the hell wins eBay does makeing more money with our items that just sit there my sales are down 73% because this dum idea

It will work for some and not for others like everything else....and it will definately not work for those that chose not to find a way to make it work and to blame ebay instead....doing that never helps anyone make sales or money.

That's true, but if in the meantime, you lowered the price to sell it, then the sale price will take it
too low! That is why I NEVER check that box that says to include skipped items. Without the ability to use Markdown Manager I had to lower some of my prices to get my sales up, due to the loss of this former feature.

I had similar situation, but only 1000+ listings...still a mess. Since all listings started at different times (not all on the same day), I could not figure out which ones had just been on sale and which ones had not, or which ones had recently had a seasonal price decrease, so I'd spend hours creating sales, only to have half of the items skipped...a royal pain. For example, the Size 10's were on sale, but the same shirt in Size 8 was not.

My decision after trying to deal with it for a month and ending up frustrated, was to stop using Markdown Manager sales altogether. I have lowered my prices across the board...my sales went back up and now I have put a different selling strategy into place.

Too bad...loved the sales and so did my buyers!

Ebay lost business...as I see it and with lower prices, they make less from my sales.

I think this will help large sellers sell more and small sellers sell less. Large sellers typically have a price advantage already. This will give them even more visibility via promoted listings. This is the worst eBay change since charging FV fees inclusive of shipping price!
