I need some advice because this is a first for me . Perhaps someone else can shed some light on it . Okay , here is what happened .
A buyer purchased a very inexpensive pair of earrings from me about a week ago . Along with her purchase she sent a message telling me that the earrings were for an elderly lady who is always losing the backs to her earrings so she asked if I could include some extras. So , I did and I shipped the earrings with a tracking number the next day .
About three days ago I was contacted by the buyer saying she couldn't find the earrings on her purchase history . The only thing I could think to do was copy and paste the transaction details along with the USPS tracking number and send it to her . Today she contacted me again saying the earrings were due to be delivered today[ in which they were] , but to an address in Florida . She says she doesn't live in Florida but here in California in a nursing home . I have doubled and tripled checked the address on her Pay Pal file and is without a doubt the same exact address in Florida I shipped the earrings to. I sent a message through '' contact the buyer '' today just to see if someone else would respond with an explanation . The person who purchased the earrings was indeed buying them for an elderly woman so this whole thing is a puzzle .. Tulips

The most I would do is send her a message that I shipped to her address on the transaction, which shows delivered. Then wait to see if she files a not received claim. It is up to her to forward it to someone else. You are only covered on the transaction if you ship to the "ship to" address. Sometimes folks try to get something here for free, or at a reduced price. You never know.
You do have a choice. You can be proactive and refund the "buyer" in full or you can wait to she if the buyer files a INR claim (where you must respond to eBay with the tracking number), and possibly get some undeserved feedback.

Of course, I'm sure you already knew that. You've been here quite a while. I'm not surprised by much any more.

Is the person messaging you using the same ID as the person who purchased from you? If no then cease communication. If yes then tell them to contact customer service for assistance with their account. There are a number of scenarios that could be going on here, but I would start with buyer confusion.

Thanks ,, yeah. The tracking shows the earrings were delivered today . I just heard from the buyer again . She asked if someone else could have purchased the earrings at the same time ? I told her once a buyer makes the purchase the item is instantly removed from my listings so no that's very unlikely . So she's asking for another pair of earrings but I don't have another pair like the ones she bought . I think at this point it's better just to turn this matter over to e bay. Tulips

Knowing where the buyer resides that was also my first thought . Tulips

May be the buyer is confused with another seller for a pair of earrings???

I think you have the right idea. If you cut through the side story of it all: They purchased an item that included the shipment address. You shipped it there. It is marked as delivered. Anything else you can do to help them is just good Kharma, but not required.

Did you verify that the label you created was for the proper address? I get an email when I create a label on Ebay and it does verify the address on the label. If you've done that, I'm guessing you are right, just wait and see what the buyer does. Very odd stuff.

Well said.

It's very odd they say they can't find it in their purchase history. Maybe they used another ID? One that had the Florida address attached for some reason.

Maybe they had checked out as a guest?

Yes ,, that was the first thing I did is double check the address on file . There's no mistake in whom ever purchased the earrings lives in Florida . The lady / buyer who has been contacting me saying she doesn't live in Florida has the exact same name / ID as the buyer I shipped the earrings to . However at the very bottom of her page it says she is a valley girl from southern Ca . . This sounds like a younger person and not an older lady who lives in a rest home . I'm really at a loss here .
