Scam?

I received an offer of $60 dollars over my Sell Now price with the message below. Sounds scammy? I'm feeling I should not accept the offer or respond. Is it safe to Reject the offer?  I think I have to reject the offer in order for the item to stay listed.  The buyer has no reviews.  Insights?

"Hello seller kindly accept my offer and text me or mail me so payments can be made with no delay. Thanks Wilson"

Yup, it's a SCAM.

And the scam is, you contact them at the phone number or email addy, they get your phone number or email addy so they can then send a fake email that looks like it comes from PayPal. Telling you that you have a payment waiting but you must send the item first, supply the tracking number, and then the payment will be released.

But.

The email is not from PayPal.

The payment doesn't exist.

The scammer hopes you will not check your actual PayPal account to see that it is all faked.

PS:  no, you don't have to reject the offer.  You can just let it time out.  The item will still be available for anyone else to offer or buy it outright.  However, it would be a good idea to decline.  Don't communicate any further with this scammer.  Ignore anything further from them if they pursue (unlikely, because this is likely just one of many, many offers they have sent out with that form letter request).

And add that ID to your Blocked Bidder List, just in case.  That will prevent any further offers or bids or Buy It Nows from that ID.

Always listen to that little voice in your head that's telling you to step carefully.     It's rarely mistaken.

Scam?

Yes, it's a scam.

Of course, you could always say "Okay.  Where do I ship it?" when they send the fake PayPal notice, you can always copy the mail-to address and turn in a fraud report to the USPS Postal Inspectors, IC3 and file a police report.

Why wait until AFTER the scam to report them?

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

I have been getting this message a lot:

I'm Alan and very much interested in your items and have make a best offer kindly text me on my private number so we can discuss about the payment and shipping (201)801-8519.thanks

Another one I have been getting is:

Hello, Please accept my offer, this is exactly what I am looking for for a friends birthday. Before going forward, please contact me at my personal phone number....xxx xxx xxxx, so we can discuss payment.

Most of these are coming from a "suma____, the numbers after Suma vary.  And always the account was just created. I have blocked, forwarded the info to Ebay, and declined these offers over and over.

What else can I do?

WILL YOU EXPERIENCED E-BAY SELLERS HELP ME OUT PLEASE???

You are a new seller selling some trendy, moderately high price stuff.  Basically, a scam magnet.

Either stop selling the expensive stuff and sell a lot of lower priced items until you can build up the experience and feedback so you won't look so good to potential scammers.

Or continue to recognize the scam offers.  Ignore them.  and make sure you know the eBay and PayPal buyer and seller protection policies to get the most of what little protection is offered to sellers.

Nothing much you can do to prevent these scammers contacting you through the ebay message system. Just recognize it for what it is, and don't fall for it.

A better question would be WHAT CAN EBAY DO?   We used to have a "report this message " button.  eBay took that away assuring us that they had "special algorithms" that would detect and prevent this sort of thing from appearing in your ebay message inbox.

Their tech program does not work, and they have repeatedly said that they have no intention of putting the report button back.

It's too bad there's no easy way to simply report these "scam" messages to ebay. This site would be a safer place if ebay allowed us sellers to be more involved in a cooperative effort.

You would think ebay would be interested in knowing this information.

I've gotten these messages and these members should be permanently suspended...simple as that.

When you see that name on a Message or email, delete it.

Delete delete delete.

Why bother even reading it?

They probably won't notice you're doing it, because those messages are going out to dozens if not hundreds of marks.
